Cpu comparison

Hi!
This is my first post on this nice board.

Is there any technical difference between the Thomson TS68000CP8 (found in my A1000) and the Motorola MC68000P8 (found in my A500)?

I also tried to put a TS68000CP16 in my A1000, but many games don't work. Is it normal?

P.S. Sorry if my english is bad

The difference: one is made by ST and the other is made by Motorola..

The A1000 probably wouldn't run those games with a Motorola made 68k either, I doubt it's the CPU but something else that is causing the incompatibility.

In addition to those, I've also seen Hitachi made 68ks in Amigas.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I read the datasheet of the 2 cpu (for what i can understand) and it seems that there's no tech difference in the specs, and there no tech difference with the ts68000cp16 either (just the clock).

some games give an error code 103, and some others stuck on a red screen after a short loading...

Should I leave the dream of an overclocked A1000?

Hello there,

Welcome to the EAB, i am sure you will like it here. Theres plenty of mischief to get up to

Unfortunately you need more than just the chip to over-clock the A1000, in-fact you need a small amount of circuitry.

Essentially you need to generate a 16Mhz Clock (the closest will be around 14.5) and then you have to generate a 1/10th 7mhz clock to make sure the XOR-ing is done in correct time

its not all that complicated although it does sound it... in the hardware mods theres a thread for developing such accelerator boards and ram boards based on revised plans from Aminet

If you are interested in building your own, I have the schematics from Livo Plos whom developed a 14mhz Accelerator for the A1000, it includes pin / part lists and net lists

so, the TP68000CP16 is 16mhz capable, but it needs an accelerator to work at that clock (14,5). Is it right?

I'll try to build it, and I'm sure I'll find nice people supporting me

The attachment i included is the one I have worked from to make an A600 version, I intend to make a simple SMD based 68000 socket version for use with the the A1000/ A500 and A2000 cpu ports but time is a premium as always...
