Question Adding hard drives to WinUAE on a running PC with WinXP

Like i said in this thread, one can easly (... ) add/remove hard drives on a running PC, and make the WinXP see them by clicking on [Find new devices]. Still, WinUAE only sees those newly added disks, only when the XP gets booted with'em.
I mean i've wanted to easly "manouver" (remove this one, add another one) the type and number of disks in WinUAE... not only WinXP

Could there something be done?

PS: Yes i know... doing it on a running PC is something really stupid, and i'm not responsible for any damage someone else will do to his/hers PC trying it

I had some problems to understand your post on the first read, but with the P.S. i have a clue now. You want to change the diskdrive of a running PC, right?

Sorry, being overexcited with all the USB to IDE interface stuff...

No, i mean adding amiga formatted HardDrives that could be seen in WinUAE.

Adding'em "physically" is easy... (yet dangerous). But i can't see it WinUAE then...

I'm worried if i'll add a HD on the USB interface, i'll also be unable to see it in winUAE
Forgot to mention that too...

Question

Are you using the -disableharddrivesafetycheck switch when you launch WINAUE?

Nope, and i'll better not
I'd probably firstly formatted my PC drives, knowing my lack of brains

Anyways, i don't have to - now with the USB to IDE interface working fine

Thanks everyone

If the drive is amiga formatted, they should appear in winuae without problem.
On the other side, are you trying to put/quit hardware while the machine is up? If it's yes, then you could end blowing many things up.

Yep, lost my 40 GB (!) hard drive that way.
Had a problem on my old PC with a non-100% working drive, which, when (un)plugged would make the frozen system continue, sometimes saving lots of my document work.
HOT-(un)plugged (stupid me!!! ) the defective drive, plugged in same drive (80% full), touched some wrong contact in the fu&$ing dark ==> KABOOM. Mechanically it's still OK, but the circuit board was gone forever.
