Best horizontal shoot-em-up - round 2
These are the 15 games to make it through to this poll (the only ones that got more than one vote actually). You get the idea, vote for your favourite shoot-em-up (and if your favourite's not here, just vote for the game you like best on the list). This poll will be open for just a week this time, two weeks seems to be too long really.
Erm, I don't have anything else to say really... other than the top 5 will go through to the final round. |

Wow, that was one hard decision!
Apidya, just by a whisker over Silkworm, and a neck over R-Type II. |

For me, it was a hard choice between Project-X and Apidya. I chose Apidya because of the diverse and unusual enemies and levels, the great power-ups and playability, the stylish intro and - of course! - the unforgettable Chris Hülsbeck music. (I still remember the main tune of the first water level.)

@DamienD: Thank you (I must be setting some sort of record for sticky/closed thread requests, heh) and I would like round 1 closed as well, cheers!

Project-X got my vote. Not the perfect SHMUP, but nice enough. A bit too long levels and repetative gameplay, but fair enough. A true 'trial & error' SHMUP, because once one gets the hang of the levels and the waves of enemies it isn't doesn't really offer that much of a challange. At least not as much of a challange as the myth claims.
I like what I've seen of Apidya, but I haven't played it through. I simply don't know the game well enough to put it above Project-X on my list. Z-Out is great. It is everything that the R-Type port fails to be. However, I do dislike the fact that it looks like there have been different artists designing the graphics on the different levels. When it look great it really does look great, but then suddenly comes these really ugly looking levels which seems to offer graphics from a completely different game. Quite disturbing, but a nice game anyways. If R-Type II hadn't suffered so much from the slowdowns, It would have been a contender. R-Type failed because it was such a crappy port (one of the worst one I've tried out, actually)... but now when they seemed to get those things right in R-Type II... they simply couldn't keep the pace of the game. It's sad. They were so close to getting it right. But they blew it. Last edited by Legerdemain; 24 May 2007 at 18:39. |
