Problem with Kajko & Kokosz HD in WinUAE 1.1.1 and above
Hey all. I discovered that on WinUAE version 1.1.1 and above "Kajko & Kokosz" game
in HD version which you can download from link below. Do not work properly. Game load very slowly and game looks like in less than one frame per second animation and game sounds are slowly noise. In WinUAE version below 1.1.1 everything is ok. ADF version work fine in all WinUAE. I tryed many different configs withou jit and full ecs as chipset and nothing help. On version 1.1.1 and above when runing In Workbench or from a clear startup-sequence on hdf file the games load very slowly and sound is one slowly noise. Can anyone check this. Maybe Toni can fix it somehow in new versions of WinUAE. Game link: http://www.ppa.pl/rodzynki/download/..._Kokosz_HD.lha - and log from WinUAE is in an attachment. And sorry for my bad english. Waiting for reply P.S.: |

(Or even OFS hdf because 1.x can't boot without filesystem in "boot rom"/RDB) |

Arnie: can You attach or upload on some free web hosting exacly configuration of your WinUAE?
Beacuse I do not have Workbench 2.065, but I tryed Amiga 600 configuration in quickstart mode and kickstart version 2.05 and only chip and slow memory and games still do not work properly. |

Now I am confused.. Log shows hdf file in use but link points to lha archive.
EDIT: I can confirm the slowdown, interesting.. (boot to non-Picasso96 mode, dragndrop the lha file to wb and execute runme) Last edited by Toni Wilen; 11 June 2008 at 21:57. |

Toni: because I tested on hdf with clear startup-sequence only with assigns and execute game file.
I almost handled - I founr Workbench 2.01 and switched kickstart to 2.05 Amiga600HD and loaded Workbench disk and add directory with unlha game as DH0: and game runs properly, but later after exit to Windows and try to run the same configuration on WinUAE 1.0.0 game still work very slow. |

Warning: technical stuff.
Ok, problem is quite simple, game sets WORDSYNC=0 + DF0: selected + drive motor started (don't ask me..) which causes disk emulation to work very hard because disk hardware basically "reads" continuous zeros. Even without disk inserted you can "read" disk, unfortunately some buggy loaders really expect this..(*) I need to check if this condition really causes continuous wordsync interrupts on real Amigas. (I hope it does not because I am not sure how to fix this without breaking some stupidly programmed track loaders..) *) all this only because of wordsync and indexsync interrupt bits. Emulation can't know if program needs index/wordsync interrupts so it has to emulate this cycle-exactly even if 99% of programs won't care.. (I think The Deep was one special case..) |

Update: I did a fresh install on my WinUAE A600HD setup and everything works perfect.
There must be something wrong with the install from the .lha.... |

It probably works MUCH faster if there is disk in all floppy drives, any disk

EDIT: Well what a carry on Matron!!!. The game ran ok for me because i had installed from floppies but as soon as WinUAE is shut down and restarted the game runs slow with garbled sound, inserting a blank disk in df0 does indeed bring it back to normal then after any soft reset the game will continue to work normally whether there is a disk inserted or not. This has got to be the strangest game ever to run
If you enable all 4 floppy drives the game slows down to a crawl, cpu over 1000%, weird. BTW. i have found that even with all 4 floppy drives enabled you only have to insert a disk into df0 to get the game running smooth. Now if some kind soul could do a bit of translating on the menus, my Polish is a bit rusty these days....... |

I can confirm that "Kajko i Kokosz" game on WinUAE 1.1.1 and above require any floppy disk
(even blank disk created by WinUAE) inserted to DF0:. If floppy is inserted game run properly. But why in WinUAE 1.0 everything is ok and floppy isn't required? Is it game or WinUAE fault? |
