I'm gonna have a practice. It's your fault when I die in a fireball.

If only there was a roller skates difficulty level.

And seeing as you're a veteran - any idea what makes you jump over a car instead of crashing into them? I've had some lucky escapes but don't know why.

Argh, don't talk to me about pitting! It's not just clunky but abysmal. Half the time I seem to leave it a yard too late and it won't let me fully turn into the pits, rather preferring me to crash into the dividing pillars (if they are there) or just miss it completely. Then I'm hammering the keys until that weird git appears with the filler/tyre spanner.

One of the crazy things is that this game is FIA linked but Microprose F1GP is not coz this game doesn't really need the licence but the other really benefits.

But all in all it is fun to play. The difference in hardness level between Novice and Amateur is about right to make it a challenge. The relationship between speed/control is fun. It's a bit weird how turning is a fixed degree tap in bends but not on straights, where it straightens you after the tap.

This happens when you run over their tyres, rather then straight up the rear end

yeh pitting is quite poor, they should have least made it semi-automated rather then having to reach for a key.
I usually slow down well early to avoid overshooting. I'm pretty sure the pits are represented on every map via a small white strip, makes it a bit easier to plan ahead.

The game has a strange pit mechanic, if you leave it too late to pit, the car will steer away from the pit like an anti-magnet, and you crash into the posts. Too early, and you might over steer into the building. I always slow right down and pull in after the last sign, line up and brake only once I'm inside.

I don't know whay you can't just, I dunno, push left for tyres and right for fuel. So much simpler.

Your car go flying when your tyres hit another tyre or a small board at high speed. On the Mega-Drive version you can ALWAYS control your car just after it hits the ground, I used to keep overtaking cars by flying over them on purpose just for fun. On the Amiga version if you are going too fast your tyres go flat and you have to wait for your car to come to a full stop before being able to control it again.

Tried novice-level. Imola was most difficult circuit and pitting in Spa was another major headache. Thanks Shatterhand for the tips, I had no idea how to pit and what keys to use

It has a bit "unique physics" but the more you play it the more fun it becomes.

Getting past monte carlo on expert is very tough.. my effort was clean but still shy of enough overtakes!
Rexsu that's one hell of a pro run on leg 1, I could probably have counted my total crashes on one hand
Can only reach Estoril on expert so far

Rexsu - congrats on taking the lead. Hats off. Yes this game requires some brave driving, but for gameplay it doesnt beat Vroom or the 1.1 Data disk. This game feels a bit similar in Novice mode but way too slow, in Vroom you go over 300. Definitely recommend those as most of the tracks are in this game. I beat both using the 030 CPU, so my run was faster than in this game, but they play better.

John4p - The physics is actually traction control, and is what they had in 1993 before it was banned in 1994, and cost Senna dearly with a car designed especially for it. On Pro, traction is off, so the car will skid rather than corner, and doesnt always run in a groove around the corners. Having said that, the car physics is more like Go-karts, and the car handles like an arcade kart game rather than an F1 sim.

ED - if we guess Leg 1 - 50k is possible in Novice, 75k is max in Amateur and 100k is max in Pro, then 125k is maximum on expert. Rexsu got 90k so its top drawer, but not the maximum possible with no crashes. The opponent AI cars are semi random, and some laps in Pro mode I find no cars at all - as happened at Monaco on my last run, so I could not qualify. Its luck if a car holds up a train of 5 cars and you get a bonus. If that happens when the red cars are full - you get double points for those. Its the random factors which make this rather unpredictable.

Don't crash is good but don't be too careful either; we must overtake as many cars as possible.
In my first tests in Monaco (pro mode), even making one mistake only I could not qualify for the next race!
I was just too slow in a lot of places.
For Estoril in Expert mode, it's simple, one crash = game over

Thank you Lifeschool.
In my mind I was talking about Vroom.
In fact I don't know the gameplay differences between Vroom, Vroom Data Disk, Vroom Multiplayer or F1.

Its not the crash in Expert mode which is game over. I crashed a few times in every race and its not so bad if you only crash once or twice per race. But the tyres take damage with the traction control off in Pro and Expert, so if you dont ease off on the corners, the soft tyres will give up after 3 laps, which means you must pit. One option is to drive carefully and with not so hard braking or cornering - but this is risky and is not recommend if you have cars behind, as if they overtake you, you lose double points. Another method would be to use Medium tyres on Expert, to make them more durable, but this mean less grip and more offs, so this is also not recommended. I usually pit in on lap 2 (the third real lap of five), and then hammer the last two laps with fresh tyres. This is risky if 6 cars pass you in the pits, but if no cars pass, its a free pitstop.

I like to think that with everyone playing, we can all share tips and learn a lot about these games - almost like we discover the real "game" for the first time. This is what makes the compo unique and special.

I didn't express myself properly, I meant "one only mistake = impossible to qualify for the next race".
In short, towards the end of a leg, the expert mode is really difficult
