CD32 power supply / compilations info
Hey guys,
Well I finally managed to get hold of a CD32.. only problem is, there is no power supply! I thought that I had one kicking around somewhere, but it turns out that the three dark coloured Commodore power supplies I have - one is 4 pin, but SQUARE connector.. and the other two are 4 pin with ROUND connector BUT... they have the pins in a REALLY strange arrangement (I wonder what they could be power supplies for) I could probably get an old ATX PC psu - but would I have to really mess around to get one to work.. how would I go about that? I read a guide on a website, but it wasnt very clear, would I just make an adaptor from a molex connector to a 4 pin din, and just plug the CD32 in that way? Also, Im looking for the compilations (100, 200, 444 and any others) does anyone know where I can get these? I tried ebay and some guy was flogging the 200 compilation, but he wants 16.99 for it and im not paying that!! |

Heys CJ,
Before you start plugging in to the mains like mad (although fun can be detrimentus to your CD32), you are however in LUCK as power-supplies are my *ahem* speciality I will give you a mod that should work with what you have *gonna go through my notes * |

well i started, googled a pinout, and there somes allready done it lol.
heres a link. http://www.ianstedman.co.uk/Amiga/am..._PSU_to_a_CD32 good luck [edit] Btw after reading this is a very good resource, however i have engineered a far simpler way of converting an ATX psu ( you dont need a7474 D-type flip flop chip unless you intend to run a line from ser to ground the +5 and reset the psu) *you can do this hardware to a reset btn* Last edited by Zetr0; 03 December 2005 at 16:32. |

Thx for the help zetr0
I saw that page a while ago and I was wondering if I buy this here: 300W PC ATX PSU And i make up one of the adaptors on that site (molex to 4 pin din) I can just plug the PC power supply into the adaptor via the molex, then the 4 pin din into the CD32, turn on the PSU, turn on the CD32 and away I go? (not in the exploding sense, but the CD32 powers on????) Please let me know 'o master Also where can I get these CD images I only have Chaos Engine and James Pond 2.. good games but I want more |

Okay my friend, what you need to do is the following,
*RELAX* and *BREATH* like any modification clear your mind before continuing, if you are in the least bit unsure take a break and talk with a professional electrician. once you are read to continue, we are to begin. use take a 4pin molex from the PSU power supply, you need 1 black(gnd) 1 red(+5v) and 1 yellow(+12v) attach these according to the schematic, and it will sovle your power problems as a last note, you will have to connect the green(or brown) PS-ON to any ground(black) on the atx psu, as this turns the power on then all thats left is to power on your cd32 |

I got my CD32 hooked up using my spair ATX powersupply I had around by using an adapter cable.
You can find one on ebay that works well, just do a search for "Supply Adapter cd32" You will need to wire a short-ciruit on the ATX connector between pin 14 (PSU-ON) and ground (black wire) Last edited by TheBoss; 04 December 2005 at 10:43. |

I made a powersupply for CD32 using the PSU from an old SCSI cabinet. It's much smaller than an ATX supply, and can fit in a small container like those black plastic ones that Maplin sell.

The old c64 Floppy drive power supply works, but i sometimes with serious problems. If you try to switch on the cd32 it takes almost 20 times till it runs.
But after that, it works fine. |
