Removing a trapdoor expansion

I've recently bought a 32MB Simm to fit onto my Blizzard 1230. I believe the simm slots are on the inside side of the expansion and I've been having difficulties getting the expansion out to turn it over + install the ram (this might be due to the fact I am slightly worried about damaging it).

Can anyone explain to me how to get it out + what to hold onto when I'm trying to pull it out or provide me with a link to some instructions (I have taken a look on google etc, but I've had little luck - I read a manual for another expansion card on amiga-hardware.com, but it wasnt very clear on what to do)?

I have an accelerator that is a rather tight fit myself. What I do is lift the end far from the connector up. This bends the PCB (printed circuit board) slightly. Then I can get it out by wiggling the PCB a bit while pulling. This have not damaged my accelerator but I cannot garantee it will not damage yours. But the bottom line is: Use enough force but don't over do it. You are to judge of what is over doing it.

Some A1200 expansion cards are very difficult to get in through the slot - you will probably find it easier taking the top of the case off and moving the keyboard out of the way and accessing it from the other side..

My recommendation: Open up the whole amiga, the SIMM slot will be easily reachable once you put the keyboard aside. My card is like this and I can't care to disconnect it from the slot!

I always removed mine by using a small flat head screwdriver in the gap between the ami and accelerator boards either side of the connector. Twist and it moves the board off the edge connector.

Cheers for the advice, I think I'll go for taking the whole case off/moving the keyboard. Hope I've got the right sized screwdriver at home to attempt the operation.

Watch you remove the clips at the back carefully, they snap

Note that when you remove the screws you don't need to undo the two smaller ones at the back - they are used to secure the disk drive into place.

i've burned the A500 mobo mounting carelessly the expansion when i was a kiddo: even if it seemed right on place evidently the pins were cortocircuiting, i probably coul avoided it by open the keyboard

Maybe my case is sturdier but I always give these fuckers a right bent and they never snapped. My A600 ones DID snap though, weak pieces of crap!

yeah actually thinking about it I wasted all my 600 (and C64) ones, but never a 1200 one. Wonder what's so powerful about the 1200 plastic?

maybe it's industrial grade epoxy resin inpregnated titanium alloy polyester filled carbon fibre....

I never snapped 64 ones either. The A600 ones snapped at my first opening, specially those on the bloody side!

made a discovery today. got 1x of my 64s has different clips on the back that look more sturdy. Mind you all my c64s are rescued from the abused 64s shelter, so maybe it was their previous owners ;-)
