Kipper2k A508ide holes in memory map
Hello,
Following what I thought was the success of soldering a two pin header to my A508ide for a HDD led, I now notice some instability when playing whd games. Using the Amiga test kit I’m told I have memory problems. It looks like 2mb of memory is awol? Does anyone have any pointers as to what I could have done to the board to cause this? All the soldering for the header was on the bottom of the board and the memory chips are on the top so I’m not sure how I Conan have caused the problem. |

Based on the reported "8 holes in memory map" I'm going to take a wild guess and say A18 and A19 got shorted together. Any pics of the board in question?

Hello!
I added the two pin header as per the attached image. This was soldered from the other side of the board. The HDD led works fine when plugged into the header. I tried unplugging the led and the problem remains. I’ll get some more pictures tonight. @DamageX. What do you mean by A18 and A19? Thanks all for your responses. |

Did some more testing last night.
I guessed that a18 and a19 were on the the processor, I tested them and that are not shorted. I then used a multimeter to test the components on the board. Bear in mind I don’t know what a good result looks like! I noticed then when testing the components marked as C on the board, they either test as open circuit in one direction or as around 350 ohms in the other. The one that I’ve arrived in the picture is open in both directions. Is this a fault? |

What do you mean by "when testing"? Testing for what?
They are decoupling capacitors across the power & ground. |

That cap doesn't look like it's soldered to the board on both ends. C is for Capacitor. Im a bit surprised you're doing this level of modding without knowing what a capacitor is. ??

This was no mod here, I just added the pin header to the already available holes in the board. I'll hav a look at the cap that tested differently tonight |

My comment was supposed to end in a smiley, and not meant as harsh as it came across. I'm not sure where it went.

I’m now starting to wonder if I tested the expansion with with Amiga test kit before I added the header. I might be getting confused with my a1200?
Too many amigas? That’s what my wife says anyway, |

i am not sure what the status was before you attempted the mod, based on what you said it seems like the problem started after the mod, please remove the mod and then retouch all the pins with your soldering iron on the 2 ram chips closest to the dip 64 pin CPU and then do a memory check, see what happens

No change in the memory test, still reports errors in the memory map as per before. Hmmm |
