Seems that 1080p is ideal for Amiga on PC

Well, 1080p resolution is 1920x1080, so there's a few advantages already:

4x 320x256 (1280x1024) is well within the limits of 1080p, with 28 pixels for overscan top and bottom, and all pixels in lo-res look 4x4 and nicely square. Any higher resolutions will also be resized by pixels being half the size again, and even Super HiRes is displayable in this mode.

It's easy enough to set up the config on WinUAE - all you have to remember is to tell your graphics card driver to maintain the aspect ratio of 4:3 when in fullscreen, and you're set!

That's how I roll. HDMI at 1080p/50hertz. Seems a pretty decent display with 4:3 ratio.

Unfortunately, 50Hz is the one thing I'm lacking. Being on a PC, it's stuck at 60Hz.

You have no idea how good an Amiga game is at when I choose to display it 4:3 fullscreen at my default resolution of 2048x1152.

It has nothing to do with "PC". Any HDMI full HD display should support 50Hz (Thanks to Bluray which has official 50Hz support)

But yes, best option is to use display native resolution, instead of trying to match Amiga resolution which only makes worst results possible. (Which for some reason is still being suggested here and there..)

This is great! I was unaware of this. My screens do not have HDMI inputs, but my gfx card has an HDMI output.

Now, how do I find a HDMI capable monitor that supports 50 Hz? Any suggestions or model numbers?

I cannot wait to play Amiga in true 50Hz again with perfect scrolling.

I'm using a BenQ XL2420T which has HDMI-in and supports 50hz.
Probably expensive though.

Amiga emulation looks great on it.

On my massive, flaming 21-inch CRT, you can't go wrong with 800x600.

For starters, it's large enough for WinUAE to accommodate anything the Amiga will throw at it, maximum overscan and all (plus it's own double modes necessary for scanlines and interlacing simulation), with the exception of super high res and rtg stuff which I personally have little use for.

It does also have the advantage of being a resolution that virtually any Windows display adapter out there can handle comfortably by default, and adding (when at all necessary) a 50hz mode for this resolution, does not take any special considerations or PowerStrip sorcery; it just works.

Also, as you may have noticed, 800x600 is able to retain a great deal of brightness because the lines are packed very close together, as compared to lesser resolutions inevitably prone to patterning thin scanlines on their own, which upon being joined together with WinUAE's (I won't have it any other way), dim down the output image considerably.

And last but not the least, not needing any further post-processing, you can get away with not using filters, which may not necessarily work adequately on legacy hardware like mine.

Anyways, flat panel technology was, is and will likely always be a miserably pointless fad for desktop computing. Let it die the death already

Well, my approach is a bit different but result is soooo awesome I never could ask for anything better. I recently got a new ultrabook yoga 2 pro which has native resolution of 3200x1800 on 13.3'' screen. Crazy, I know (well, retina-like) so windows has to be on 200% zoom. (with some other scaling problems, but I'm not here to talk about windows). However winuae - oh winUAE, I turned on AmiGT filter (on that native res it gives maybe not perfect but lovely blur) and - yes! - rgb mask!! So on high DPI with this small screen - you don't really see it, but when you get really, I mean really close, CRT alike pattern comes out. This has absolutely great subliminal effect of e.g. whites not being completely white, but, you know, THAT oldschool feeling! After turning on those two effects I can't stop starring at my 1084, err, my uae screen. Actually, the only missing thing is flicker, but I'm sure it is possible to emulate it with some black/white frame insertion
