Myst screen display problem
Hello!
I am having a problem running an installed version of MYST on my Amiga 1200 workbench configuration. I can get the game installed, Although I do have to mount the game's install folder as a directory in the CD/HD section of WinUAE 3.3.0.0 to get Workbench to load up the icons to activate the game. (If I don't, the game installs properly to the folder I selected in Windows but the icons don't show up in Workbench for some reason.) My issue is that regardless of the display/filter settings or the in-game resolution configuration utility settings, I cannot get the videos/play screen of this game to display properly either in windowed mode or full-screen. I have to fiddle with the display and filter settings to get the game screen centered but even then it seems about 1/3 of the play screen isn't visible/cut off. I can try the vertical/horizontal position sliders and they do center the screen but a good deal of the screen as stated before just simply isn't being shown, which is strange because I can still move my cursor on to that blank screen area and still click on and interact with objects that should be there... I'll upload screenshots of my problem as well as my WinUAE configuration. In workbench I am running the game in HIRES mode with no interlacing as it seems to give me the best result. Any help would be much appreciated!! |

Hello there skwatter,
Welcome to EAB ...just a very quick comment (with a suggestion) that you may want to try. Personally, I've found that leaving WinUAE with the "Default" scaling option set causes issues for me. For example, most of my game configurations are set as 640x480 but I have a few that need a resolution of 720x576 in order to not cut the full display off. If I have say 720x576 selected and "Default" then it still looks like I have 640x480 set and is displayed not how it should be... Anyway, try changing the 3rd row / far right option from "Default" --> "No Scaling" (from your 2nd image). |

I have the same thing:
All Play Areas are 640x480 with Black Border (545x333 without) no matter the Screen Mode or Resolution Selected. |

Hi, DamienD; Thanks for the greetings!
Thanks as well for the information but unfortunately, changing the scaling option from "Default" to "No Scaling" didn't seem to help the problem. I also tried your 720x576 resolution option but no dice for that, either... It seems Nobby_UK and I are in the same boat; Have you tried Myst on WinUAE, DamienD? Could it be a problem with the emulation of the game itself, perhaps? Thanks very much! |

@skwatter
Unless you are using a default config then It would probably be better if you could attach your A1200 config file to a post so people can test using your config. |

Non-centered image probably is correct. Very common.

The game is not designed for such a low resolution. You should use hires laced or DBLPal Hires noflicker or since you are in Winuae. use the rtg version.

Hi...
Thanks for all the information. I shall try and post my Configuration file. Mad-Matt, for the Hires or DBLPal options, are they in MYST's own startup menu for resolutions or emulator options? Do I need to use a combination of both sets of options? As for the RTG, I have seen this option in WinUAE but do I need a special copy of MYST to run it in RTG? Thanks!! |

You just need to drop the dblpal or (dblntsc) monitor driver from the :Storage/Monitors folder into :devs/Monitors folder to make it available. Then it will appear in the Myst screenmode preferences.
I cant remember if the rtg version is on the Myst disc or not but there is a Game update that certainly has it. To use it you need Picasso96 software and UAEgfx monitor driver or PiccasoIV emulation with Picasso96 or CybergraphX software. |

I assume it is the Main Icon = MYST_CGFX
(as opposed to MYST_AGA). Last edited by Nobby_UK; 12 April 2020 at 23:41. |

Hi...
I tried installing the V1.1 patch and tried moving the monitor files that Mad-Matt specified... I got them to appear in MYST's configuration menu but the result is worse using any of the DBLNTSC options whether I have the resolution set to PAL or NTSC in WINAUE's display menu... Any ideas? Thanks. |
