Exporting LSD docs disks to Word?

Is there any (easy) way to export the contents (i.e. the text, not the menu system) into Word or notepad?

Put the monitor on your scanner and use an ocr software

This wouldn't work though, both are light sources so a monitor can't reflect back the scanner's beam. I'm so nice that I warned you before you tried!

Lightbulb Amiga with Hard Drive, Directory Opus and XFDDecrunch

Use a utility like Directory Opus to view the contents of the disk. Copy the files you want to RAM: and use XFDDecrunch (aminet:util/pack) to depack the files. Now copy them back to your PC hard drive and you can open them in Word.

i started this a longwhile ago, and the time involved was HUGE, as most LSD docs files are just a number. so i just didnt bother with it.

so you have to unpack them, open them to see what they are, then save them back out.

there are loads of docs per disk, and loads of disks. i hope you have a few weeks to spare

Actually it's not that hard - the index file is included as text in the main menu, so you depack the file, open it in a text editor then search for some text that is on it. Once you find it, you have the list of files in order and can then just count down which doc is which...

Plus if somebody were to spend the time to index the disks properly ONCE, everyone could use them. People shouldn't be so selfish!

I have started to index the disks, you can see the result here:

http://redump.emubase.de/lsd_index.php

At the moment LSD disks 1 and 2 are in the database, that already took some hours though

What do you think about it?

There is a full LSD index on one of the last disks already, text version should be on the web. And why would you want to give up the cozy A500 doc reading for some dead wordprocessor?

Not exactly what I had in mind but nicely done Duke!

I meant an index which shows what the actual files are because they are named as numbers. If you want to find a doc in particular you can just do "search docs.txt nameofgame" and it will spit out the line which has the game name and the doc disk it is on. However, most of the early ones are just named as numbers and need an index like this:

LSD DOCS DISK 08 INDEX

001 - A10 Tank Killer
002 - Advanced Fruit Machine Simulator
003 - Amiga-Amstrad Monitor Connection
004 - Amiga-Scart Leads Assembley
005 - Antheads solution
006 - APB
007 - Awesome
008 - Batman - Caped Crusader solution
009 - Better Dead Than Alien cheat
010 - Bootshop Virus Database Entry
011 - Captive
012 - Captive hints
013 - Chronoquest 2 solution
014 - Colorado solution
015 - Conqueror hints
016 - Corporation hints
017 - Cricket Captain
018 - Crossdos
029 - Debut

Duke: Good work + cute page. This could be a useful resource if it's continued, although I understand it must be quite time-consuming...

Ok, decided not to start a new thread. This one is quite old but I guessed there would still be interest.

A few weeks ago I finally decided that I wanted to go through ALL the LSD docs: Copy them to windows dirs (through WinUAE), unpack/decrunch them, rename them and sort them in folders by letter. It was a LOT of work, especially since many of the disks had checksum errors forcing me to look for alternate versions. However, using the disks from Tosec I was able to preserve almost all the docs.

So. I've renamed them to "docname [disk number].extension" for easy viewing within Windows without losing the reference to the original disk. Documents were given the .txt extension, pictures the .iff extension (yes, iff pictures can be viewed from Windows with Paint Shop Pro for example) and modules the .mod one. Music, Readmes, Greets, Jokes, Loader Pics, Indexes etc were stripped to separated directories instead of leaving them with the DOCS. Savegames, saved characters etc were NOT included; There are usually docs referring to them which will make it easy for you to find the disk they're on if you really want to use them,

There were HEAPS of spelling errors and although I've corrected as many as I could there are many left, especially in the docs themselves since I haven't touched the main content of the docs. These docs were either typed in or OCR'd and since some docs count to 50-100 pages you really shouldn't count on them being error free

All of this came down to ~140 MB but packed with 7zip ~30 MB. Now, if anyone would like to host this archive I'd be glad to upload it for everyone to enjoy! Although I carried this work out for my own sake, it'd just be a pleasure if it would please others as well.

Thoughts?

I don't have any thoughts fisken uno except to say, well done and how time-consuming that must have been. True commitment! I know quite a few members on here that had recently been asking how to transfer LSD Docs to WordPad, etc. with limited results because of files being crunched, etc. I even tried myself. At least now this eliminates the need of having to boot up WinUAE to view the original docs.

I look forward to viewing this archive!

Excellent work

65 LSD disks and 18 LSD Sprint disks ("old" docs). I think all in all it includes ~6000 documents.
