Question Null modem cable is this right?

Please dont get grumpy over this question, I did look around but couldnt find anything certain. Not being a cable expert I thought it best to ask rather than blow one of my ports.

What it is, I have a Belkin Null modem cable that says its got null modem wiring and not straight thru with a serial DB9 female/DB25 male connections and was wondering if this is the right cable to transfer files between my PC & Amiga?

The reason being it seems to fit into the Amigas Parallel port and not the serial port, which is what I was expecting.

Any help please.

The cable needs to plug into serial ports on both the clone and the Amiga. If it is the wrong 'gender' you need to use a converter which is a straight-through male-to-female converter so that it plugs in to the serial port on your amiga.

Thanks for the quick reply Gary.

So I suppose the adapter I need is just like a small dongle to correct the "Gender" of the null plug to female connections.

I hope they will be easy to get, and cheap

edit * I got one off ebay for £1*

thanks again

Ok, I got my Gender changer to fit my cable, now I was wondering do I have to cut any wires from this cable as I have read elsewhere or do I just plug in the cables from PC to Amiga?

I am using a PC Null modem cable as stated in my first post.

You shouldn't have to modify the cable at all. The Amigas serial port is standard RS-232 as should be the PCs so there shouldn't be any hacks necessary.

Thanks Gary, I'll use your advice but what is this I've read, why would you need to cut some wires or is what I've read wrong?
