Daimakaimura - Ghouls 'N Ghosts Arcade port on the Atari STE? It's possible!

Quote:
In 1988 Capcom released one of the finest Arcade games ever to grace the gaming scene, and that game was the incredible and most frustrating platformers Ghouls 'n Ghosts, which appeared on pretty much every system you could think of...Even the Atari ST. In fact today's mention is in regards to the Atari STE, as currently Anima is working on a more faithful Atari STE port of that classic game, which is being shown off in this very early work in progress glitchy video.

Pole Position - Arcade conversion to the Atari ST is looking pretty damn sweet

Quote:
During the late 80's Namco released a brilliant arcade racing game called Pole Position, which was designed by Tōru Iwatani, designer of Pac-Man, ending up as one of the most popular arcade racing games of 1982-3. A game which also appeared on multiple systems including the Atari 2600, Atari 5200, Atari 8-bit, Commodore 64/128, Commodore VIC-20, Intellivision, Vectrex, MS-DOS, TI-99/4A and Sinclair ZX Spectrum is about to be shown off as a very high grade conversion and on the Atari ST!

Wow. This thread is turning 10 years in a few month. Unbelievable!

I was looking for some info on what exclusive ST games there are and what of them are worth playing. So thanks for all these suggestions. Took some time to work through here but I am very glad I found some cool games I never heard before.

But I can't find full versions of HOOG and ACCELARATOR anywhere. Any suggestions???

Take a look at this thread gradius3; if you haven't read through already

Ports / Conversions --> Amiga

...some very cool ports to the Amiga indeed; from the masters who can understand both systems / cross-platform code!!!

Yeah, great stuff! Impressive work of ports. This really deserved a thread on its own. Big list and growing more and more.

Ghouls 'N Ghosts Arcade port on the Atari STE gets new footage and play test!

As we said before in 1988 Capcom released one of the finest Arcade games ever to grace the gaming scene, and that game was the incredible and most frustrating platformer Ghouls 'n Ghosts, which appeared on lots of systems including the Atari ST. And it's the Atari which has again appeared in our news feed, as thanks to a heads up by our friends AtariCrypt, the arcade conversion to the Atari STE as a work in progress by Anima, has not only been made available as a first beta test, but it looks far better than the previous showing!

Have I got this right? When somebody convers ST game for Amiga, he/she wrote a some kind of real time wrapper wich converts Atari things to amiga things on fly?

Would it be possible to make a general purpose wrapper? There are some examples from MSX world. There is a MSX wrapper for SVI 318/328 and Memotech Computers. I do understand that those are 8bit Computers and hardware is prety much same.

There is only one emulator (translator?) that I know of doing this on the Amiga - Electrostatic http://aminet.net/package/misc/emu/Electrostatic

From the readme: Electrostatic emulates fewer games than V2600 or Stella, but is usually several times faster.

It gives proper Atari 2600 emulation even on slower hardware. I have translated and uploaded three Atari 2600 games to Aminet around 15-16 years ago:

Skeleton - http://aminet.net/game/misc/Skeleton.lha
Vault Assault - http://aminet.net/game/misc/VaultAssault.lha
Warring Worms - http://aminet.net/game/misc/WarringWorms.lha

For the other games that I have successfully translated, I didn't own rights to upload to Aminet, as they are commercial.

Bonus - some demos
http://aminet.net/demo/euro/Atari2600Demos.lha

Unfortunately, Neil Cafferkey didn't receive much feedback for his translator, so he stopped developing it, leaving it with many unsupported features of the Atari 2600, so many games don't work at all, especially the ones that use mid-frame collision reading.

There are already several Atari ST games translated to Amiga (Karateka for example), but each one is done manually by experienced coders. Writing a wrapper is a project of different magnitude, than simply converting specific games.

I can belive that is harder and takes longer to do, but if someone is planning to convert several Atari games to Amiga, it could be actually time saving?

You have made several emulators and games yourself. Played some of them, thanks.
