Recommendations wanted
Hi guys
Been awhile but glad to back So i have a couple of g4 macs laying around and want to turn at least one of them into a amiga machine. I want to ideally boot straight into the amiga environment is this possible ? The two choices i have looked at are morphos and the amikit solution using an emu. It has to be fully backward compatible which is leading me to think amikit+emu will be the prefered option. What do you guys think ? what would you do ? |

Hi,,
Or you could see where this project is going http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=88707 At the moment its being worked on by #nobody who's doing a good job, i am hoping it will go from running off a Usb stick to running off a Harddrive . |

That's no good for him, he's running a G4 Mac, it doesn't run on PPC!
The options you have are what you already stated, although if you still want MacOS too your better off with Amikit. Morphos would be a dual boot option at best. |

I like the idea of morphos as not bothered about macos
but i am also using amikit under emu and love it. Would amikit boot straight into amikit avoiding macos altogether ? |

There is a Linux distro for Amikit called AmiPUP, it's only for x86 systems though, no good for PPC.
To get a booting Amikit on a G4 PPC you would have to install Linux and alter it so it boots straight into the emulation, no small feat really. |

i will look into the linux/amikit solution as thats my prefered choice. I want to keep as close to classic amiga as i can with it being crt monitor as well to give that added touch of realism

There's E-UAE for MorphOS, so one option is to install MorphOS and run UAE setup under it. Then you have purely amigaish system with no alien OS underneath. System friendly software will fly "natively" on MorphOS and HW banging software on UAE.

As a side note would there be any interest in a warts and all step by step guide to how it all comes together ? |

I guess installing MorphOS itself is easy enough and no guides are needed, but then you have two options.
Either continue "manually" and install E-UAE with help of, for example, this guide: http://www.morphos-storage.net/dl.ph...on_MorphOS.pdf And you might also want to check some other generic configuration options for beginners from here: http://library.morph.zone/Getting_Started Or install Chrysalis pack over your fresh MorphOS installation, I think it comes with E-UAE pre-installed and you probably only need to copy couple of kickstart ROM files to the right place. The Chryalis pack is a pre-made configuration/software pack like Amikit, ClassicWB, etc are on the classics. Not everyone's cup of tea, but at least an easy way to take a quick look for software. |
