A1200 Finally Arrived... What Next?

First off, Happy Birthday to me! Quarter of a century old... Wow.

A1200 arrived today (good timing on my part!). Got it booted up and it seems to have a fairly fresh ClassicWB LITE installed on the CF Card (8GB).

It does not have any expansions and it has the 3.0 Kickstart it seems.

I will be getting an ACA1221 and KS 3.1 roms from AmigaKit soon.

Other than that what do you guys recommend that I do to expand my new A1200?

Just want some ideas and maybe some reading info on HDD space limitations/interesting documentation and such.

Thanks!

If you will use USB you can buy a RapidRoad Adapter, directly connected to the ACA1221. (faster then the internal clockport)
For internet there is a wlan card that you can buy on e.g. amibay(???, koxman)
Next thing is an SCSI CD-Rom via PCMCIA like Squirrel. http://amiga.resource.cx/search.pl?id=squirrel

But this is hard to find.

If you like MP3, then MASPlayer is a thing you can looking for.

Also hard to find.

There are so many things you can do.
Just have a look on amiga.resource.cx an visit the a1200 extensions.

happy birthday

The answer is always 'depends what do you want to do with it?'

If you just want to play some old games and demos then all you'll need to do is install WHDLOAD and loads of games.

With an ACA1221 you could install a full ClassicWB I guess...

And what are you going to use for a display?

Indivision AGA Mrk2 might be on your shopping list...

I want to set it up as a general purpose Amiga computer. I have an A500 as well but I will be using my A1200 more probably. Games are a number 2 on my list.

I'm using a Sony PVM 14" Monitor with a SCART to BNC adapter. The Scan Doubler is deff. going to be an investment later on.

This is always a puzzling question. It's *your* vintage computing experience, not ours, so why ask others what to do with it?

There's a wealth of information / software out there, I suggest digging into scans of old magazines and reading what happened back then. Live or relive the past. That's what these computers are best for. :-)

Exactly. Like me these days.. I have whdload setups and floppy emulators for my Amigas but suddenly wanted to start fixing my floppy disk collection, write ADFs to them and start loading floppy games from my Amiga 500 Even though it's more practical to use whdload or floppy emulators I did it just because I could and wanted to I also just love to sit with X-Copy to check, format and try to fix floppy disks. And just sorting the floppy games in the boxes is part of the charm. I get new CRT TVs all the time to try out, but always end up using my BenQ BL 702A monitors connected to RGB. I actually prefer it over using my scandoublers. Vintage computing is whatever you want it to be

My list was something like this:

ACA1221 fully unlocked. (Mainly for compatibility with all games)
4GB CF card, classic workbench, games, WHDLoad.
32mb CFcard + PCMCIA adapter for transferring from PC.
RGB scart (a good one, they do vary)
XRGB mini framemiester, for use on 46" LCD with scanlines enabled.
Zipstick
Speed mouse.

This for me is a solid machine and looks great on the big screen.
