Ghouls 'n Ghosts sound

There is written in manual that F2 toggles music / sound effects. Does this work to anyone? I try WHDLoad version and what I get is intro music and in-game background humming. Thats all, F2 does nothing. Can anybody try it with original floppy? Other keys such F1 and F10 work.

Nope...

[F2] does absolutely nothing in the .IPF and .various ADFs.

False advertising I say; typical cheap conversion that we had to suffer *sometimes*

Shinobi anyone?

...although I love Capcom arcade, but who doesn't?

Very strange. I asked directly to the original coder and here is the response:

Quote:
Predseda: Do you remember why Ghouls 'n Ghosts didn’t contain any sound effects?
Quote:
DJB: The game we shipped had sound effects for sure and was tested on the hardware. Not sure why you are not hearing sound effects.

Or at least someone who would try to get samples from the game using some ripper. If it would be confirmed there really are some SFXs, it would be a clue that something must screwed up before release.

in the manual says that key F2 changes music/sfx for AMIGA and ATARI ST
but on the Amiga not works, but yes it works on the ATARI ST

maybe the sound fx files are there on the floppy disks and the coders forget to check if pressing F2 become activated

anyways, this is one of the worst arcade conversions for the Amiga, this game sucks, the scroll sucks, gfx sucks, works at around 10 fps, etc etc

the best ghouls'n ghost conversion is the one for the spectrum 128k

No, for me the SNES version is king directly after the arcade; with new twists but still faithful

It's true. Sound on/off with F2 works only in the ST version.

Best home conversion? The SuperGrafx-16 port and the nearly 1:1 port for the Sharp X68000. Then the Mega Drive port. The SNES version is not a straight port, more like a sequel.

There is no reference to F2 in the code at all.

F1, F10, Y, N and SPACE and 1 and some others, but no F2.

The keyboard check for F1 and F10 are very clear and obvious, makes no sense that F2 would be obfuscated.

The music files on the disk are obvious, theres nothing apparent thats SFX.

Still not solved - this review mentions some sound effects!

http://amr.abime.net/review_1884

Is there anyone out there, who has the ORIGINAL FLOPPY RELEASE and would test it for us? David Broadhurst says there WERE sounds for sure, but they could be disabled due to a crack (as a part of copy protection).

I've tested 2 original disk images (IPF format). Both had no s/fx.

Just read the article. They even mention that the game has no s/fx. "The Sound is even on a higher standard than the graphics. The lack of effects is more than made up for by the stunning music."

When I tested I used the .IPFs but <F2> did nothing

Read the article carefully or my above edited comment. There are no effects.

edit: You probably read the "The ratings explained". Not the review.

See the post above mine from Retro.

...and after you posted the original question, the first thing I did was test one .IPF versions and the .ADFs I use.

Not to mention Sir Galahad has analysed the code

I'm not saying "sound effects" are not included on disk but there's nothing triggering them so...

What more evidence do you want my friend?

...what do you expect when it comes to Capcom original arcade games being converted to the Amiga by U.S. Gold?
