Question Workbench 3.1 User Startup

Hello!

I have been trying to read up on workbench 3.1 to find out the following things but not had any luck yet.

1) I have read you can create a custom startup sequence? What I would like to do (if it is possible) is have a certain folder open on boot and display all the files in name format automatically. Is this possible or am I expecting too much?

2) I tried to copy over some files between hard drives and ran out of space mid-copy. Foolishly I didn't select to remove the half copied files and now they are still taking up disk space but not displaying as an icon so I can deleted them. Any ideas please?

Thanks!

Alex

1) This isn't possible from Workbench 3.1 AFAIK. There may be 3rd party applications that can be run on startup that list files, but there's no proper way to control Workbench's own windows under 3.1. Workbench 3.9 includes a workbench ARexx port that allows such behaviour to be created using a simple ARexx script.

2) Try the Window->Show->All Files menu item to see files which don't have an icon associated. That will let you select and delete those files.

thank you

Thanks Daedalus, much appreciated.

Selecting see all files found it - brilliant thank you.

Thought I might have been a bit expectant with my other request. Is it possible to set a folder to always display files by name as a default - just to save me having to go to the menu and manually doing this each time I open the folder?

Cheers!

After changing it, go back and take a snapshot with the folder still selected.

Should do the trick.

Yep, Window->Snapshot->Window will save the position and settings of the window. Choosing All will also snapshot the icon positions (in icon mode...) that will save the settings for the next time, however it will only work if the drawer you want to show also has an icon itself.

About the little space on Floppy, are you using WinUAE or a real Amiga?
