NovaCoder's Blizz 1240 to 1260 hack
Hiya,
I've just brought this Apparently it's a 1240 that someone has upgraded to a 1260, question is....will it fit in my desktop case with the SIM at that angle? Last edited by NovaCoder; 11 March 2010 at 01:14. |

From the picture this can't be a 060 as the voltage regulator is missing. The CPU would die if you turn it on.

That processor under the fan doesn't look big enough to be an '060 to me, or is it?

Update: Mix-up with the seller, yes it is a 1240 not a 1260.

I stick a couple of carefully positioned empty DVD cases under mine - raises it to exactly the right level for all to be good. Hope that helps. |

You recognize his tablecloth? That damn tablecloth must be famous by now
To be honest it was more my fault than his, anyway Cosmos has kindly offered his services to turn this sucker into a decent 1260.....watch this space! Last edited by NovaCoder; 12 March 2010 at 10:43. |

Nice :-)
Good MC68060RC50 CPU have no problem to work with 80MHz; all you need is good RAM. Once upgraded to 060@80MHz + 64MB of RAM it will be really a classic beast. And the angled RAM socket can be replaced to fit this Blizzard into standard desktop case and have tapdoor closed (few holes in the trapdoor might be necessary to keep the card cool). |

Ok it's arrived now so I had a chance to check it out. The good news is that it works
Here are some better pics: I ran some tests in SysInfo, my 030 records the following: Drystones: 9526 MIPS: 9.94 MFLOPS: 1.34 HD speed: 4,493 ADOOM (320x200) 8FPS After wacking the 1240 I saw the following: Drystones: 15019 MIPS: 15.67 MFLOPS: 7.45 HD speed: 3,449 ADOOM (320x200) 8FPS Ok, some head-scratching took place and then I noticed that some of CPU caches were not activated, after turning them on it recorded about a 30% improvement over the benchmark 040 system. The hd speed was not improved though so it is true that some faster cards result in a slower transfer speed. I then looked at the tooltypes in ADOOM and changed CPU from 030 to 040. This increased the FPS to 12 which made a big difference to the game (it was now actually playable on the first few levels!). |

Oh, and I didn't connect the fan up for my quick benchmark testing and that little 040 got rather warm

Its typical for Blizzard 1240/1260 cards that the hdspeed goes down compared to the 030er boards.
