Vampire 500+ V2 question

Does anyone know how many IDE devices are supported on the Vampire's IDE port? Just the single drive, or, can it do two?

It works just like the IDE port in the 600 or 1200 so it should be able to do two devices, however if FastIDE mode is enabled, it might not work properly with more than one device (FastIDE is ~10MB/s compared to ~3MB/s).

How does one turn fastIDE mode on and off?

Also, I have noticed that the drive activity light on the A500's case does not flash when the vampire is accessing the CF or SD cards. Is this normal? If so, is there a work-around that will enable LED so I know when something is loading?

The LED is for the FDD, isn't it?

Yes, the A500 only has a FDD LED, but with some modifications I guess it could be possible to make it flash with HDD as well.

OK, thank you. Maybe I was confusing my A500 w/GVP sidecar with the A1200's LEDs.

Since other Vampire 500 related threads appear to be closed let me ask my question here. Is there anybody who actually runs it in Amiga 500? From various sources, I got the impression that almost everybody operates it in Amigas 2000. Does the Vampire fit in Amiga 500 properly even with the case closed?

I think most use it in their A500/A500+ actually. I myself have mine in my A500+, it fits without issues.

I also use it in my A500+. With the current core it makes the most sense to use it in a model which has 2MB chip which is simple to achieve with a 500+, although when Gold 3 comes along, that should become irrelevant.

I run it in my A500 rev5. Fits fine as is. I modified mine to have an extra riser because i broke some pins that needed repairing after I removed it for the first time. So with the riser, it doesn't fit (butts up against the Keyboard. Of no consequence to me however, I don't use the keyboard and will be transplanting this in to a PC tower case once my SDNet arrives (this week) Woot!
