1541-II to Amiga and PC

I recently picked up a cheap 1541-II drive. Sold as seen it needed some serious cleaning but powered up fine with my cd32 psu so next step is to try it. I don't have a working c64 at present so I was just going to hook it up to my Amiga or PC. I've seen seperate cables that can connect to both (both sold by amigakit) but my question is:

Is there any difference in the cables sold for connection to a pc or connection to an amiga?

In both instances it connects to the parallel port so I suspect it's the same but just wanted to confirm.

I have one of these cables and it works ok, but I read reports online that they could do damage to the drive or Amiga. I would use caution.

In any case they are not the same, Frodo uses one and Easy1541 uses another.

The cable diagram I used is the one included in the Easy1541 documentation:

I took a PC XE1541 cable and modified it to this spec. It worked great every time I used, but after reading reports of it being a bit dangerous, I stopped.
Maybe my cable is safer, it might have some diodes protecting lines, but I can';t remember right now.

I was reading that so long as nothing is disconnected while power is on then all will be fine.

Thanks anyway for confirming regarding the cable.

As I said, I used it a lot and just fine. I love that I can mount disks on the system like normal Amiga volumes. It's very useful.
