Do NOT allow people to submit 10/150 pages!
If people are submitting magazines to AMR, or your team are scanning, then for god's sake enough of this click on an issue and find only 4 useless pages scanned. Clearly someone actually has the magazine at the time of scanning the cover and contents pages only.
If you're going to scan an issue sit down and scan the whole thing, rather than scanning 10% of 10 issues making the whole thing look like a bit of a waste of time. |

Guess the question is if 0 pages are 'better' than 4 or 10. You know that it is voluntary to send stuff to AMR, so you can't actually 'force' people to scan everything. You can just add what you have or not. Just my 2 cent...

I think it must be a very time consuming project to scan and upload pages - I for one am grateful for any contribution as I use the site often.
AMR is a fantastic site but it shouldn't be forgotten that it is a work in progress after all... saying this, I hear you ImmortalA1000, it is frustrating not to find the pages that you need. |

nowadays industrial copiers can scan & create PDFs like a breeze. Still takes time, though.
With a personal scanner, argh what a nightmare! |

That's exactly the point. Not many people have access to an industrial copier and have to spend quite some time to get decent scans of their mags. Anyway, let's hope that galaxy finds the time to update AMR soon and see if what will pop up

But like TCD said, You can't Force People to. Better little than nothing. On the other Hand, I'd rather have nothing, than a Few Pages in LoRes annoying Me every Time I look at them. It's hard to decide. That's why... --> See above Anyway, thanks to all other People who have Scanned for AMR (and other Projects) Quote:
...and the Fact that You won't get much Feedback for your hard Work. I've even been Insulted on another Board (just by one or two people), just because I claimed (with right) my Scans were better/bigger in Quality, and if they wouldn't remove their Stupid Watermarks, I would not allow My Scans on their Site. But I don't Scan for Feedback, neither Positive nor Negative. I Scan them for Myself, Mainly. (How Selfish of Me ) Quote:
And what would You Use that PDF for? Never do Scans directly into a PDF. Thats pointless - and Contraproductive, because PDF is a proprietary Fileformat. Regarding PDF's in General: I don't do any more PDF's, btw. ...made My Manuals in PDF Years Ago, just for 'Compatibility'. But I will drop that for any further Releases (If there will be any). CBR/CBZ it is. Sc*ew Ad*be! (And A**le too, btw) |

I think any contribution is worthwhile, especially because it's voluntary. We all know what it's like when we start a project, sometimes there isn't enough hours in the day to complete the task quickly and therefore people lose an interest in continuing with it.
I have around 24+ mags, some may be rare and not in AMR, but I can't honestly say whether or not I'd be interested in scanning a whole mag with my crappy scanner + it's position is not exactly ideal either, which will make the whole process tedious. |

Wow, logix. That was really subtle.
@Galaxy: I wrote you a PM about AMR some months ago. |

PDF can be converted to JPG (I guess PNG too).
I did a quick search and haven't found a free tool to do so, but that does not mean it does not exist (google often make commercial link appear first!!): http://3d2f.com/tags/pdf2jpg/ But I agree that such copiers aren't to be found at home. I work in a big company where such copiers are freely available but 1) I don't have issues of rare magazines 2) I don't have the time to do such scans when I'm at work. And even with an industrial copier, you have to flip through all the pages, unless you take down your precious mag and in that case maybe you can put it in the input paper tray (but then the quality of the paper could confuse/jam the copier). A labour of love, in all cases... |

I don't see a problem with encapsulating scans within a PDF. What the hell is this CBR/CBZ crap, some new file format that no one uses?!

I personally have been interested in DjVu (both as image format and container) for scanned documents since I've found out about it. It has some very interesting properties and features, but it doesn't look like it's becoming very mainstream. It is used in some notable archiving projects, though. Relevant links:

Last Activity: 07 January 2010 00:22 Might explain it... Btw : What's all that PDF/CBZ/DjVu talk about anyway? Last time I looked the pages on AMR were simple JPGs. |

You are right TCD.
This should be discussed in another Thread. I just mentioned it, because jotd talked about "Scan to PDF" And Yes the AMR Files are Single-File JPG's, of Course. |

what could be cool is a "request" section where you could request such or such article
So people who make scans know it's not for nothing, at least someone is interested. I'd like the scans for all the articles mentionning the Bitmap Bros |
