Probably, that why on Sonnet Crescendo sound via SoundBlaster is too slow.

512MB will not fit in the Z3 window of the Mediator (without shifting it). Currently with the right setup of PCI cards, 384MB is supported max.

Yes, I know about the limit

So the question is when/if there will be Apocalypse upgraded to 512MB - how fast it will be in Q3 and RTCW in comparision with Ragnarok.

256MB would already suffice? But you want benchmarks I take it? I can do some runs with the Apocalypse. :-)

I have a real 256MB Apocalypse. It has a different part number. And yes, Q3 runs on it.

It ran on my A1200 too before it broke. Just not with sound. Or Warp3D.

I managed to get sound going but only via AHI and an FM801. The K1 certainly ran QuakeWOS faster than my BPPC too, but wasn't stable enough for constant use. Good fun though, and some epic work by Hedeon that it even worked at all given the Mediator 1200 limitations

Hi there, I have sound working fine through AHI and FM801 with Quake now. Only issue I have is I can't run the USB and PPC together or it hard locks the system, I have to disable the USB stack (go offline) before running PPC Innit through the small script. The system locks up if I add it to the SS.

By the way you typo'd the assign in your guide, it's back to front

Thanks for your work on this driver tho, it's fantastic to see it working as I wasn't really expecting it to!

I have a Voodoo 3 2000 but it needs new cooling so I can't test that yet.

PS. I have one of the Apocalypse G4's on the way, will be a while as I bough the card and carrier off eBay, from Israel and USA respectively but be keen to see if that works and how it performs

Elbox updated their sound drivers since. Using a high priority process instead of an interrupt.. Never could test it. I have to repeat though that the A1200 is not supported. And your video doesn't show sound working?

I am guessing that the usb stack uses an interrupt.

I took the Video before I put the sound card back in, can assure you it's working now. I pulled all other PCI cards when I was trouble shooting.

Slightly longer Video with sound this time

https://youtu.be/hGg3A5uJ71M

Once I sort the cooling on my Voodoo I'll see if I can get Warp3D going.

So I installed my Voodoo 3 in the A1200 Tower, I wasn't able to make Warp3D run off the PPC, I wasn't expecting it but it does try to run however can't open the screen. All drivers are in the right places and the screens are setup as 68k Warp3D is working fine.

Not asking for support, just reporting my findings, Happy to share PPC exceptions that I get with Wipeout & ShogoMAD if interested. Incidentally I almost got Shogo to run in Software Rendering bit it gave a garbled screen after the main menu, close one though! (Shogo does not start when Warp3D is installed as it gives the exception while searching for the renderers. It loads up when Warp3Dppc is removed from libs.)

Quake II wont run in GL or Software rendering, not even in a Window, the mouse goes all jerky and nothing further happens.

Blitzquake was the closest to starting I think but again fails to open the screen.

Be interesting to see if I get different results with the Apocolypse G4 when it turns up

@Hedeon really appreciate everything you've put into this driver, I know I'm late to the party but it's certainly renewed my interest

I've seen it kinda running for A1200 from developer/user videos. Worked better in software mode. With GL as soon you create some event (mouse or keyboard) it went wrong. Don't remember if sound was disabled or not (by renaming snd_ahi.dll to whatever).

But it was cool to see it "half working" doing fast timedemos with GL.

Blitz and Q2 tests were done with my own versions (althought some people has problems with gcc build vs vbcc github releases)

Done. 128MB replaced with 256MB just by replacing the chips. I did this in the worst possible way and the room was too cold, so I ended up with a lot of cold solder joints.

Great news

So what IC’s are needed for this upgrade?
