Smile

No need to search any longer - found a second defective copy (cyl. 3 corrupt [errdms]) to my first defective copy (cyl. 69 corrupt [errdms], but cyl. 3 was OK!) of the known MAD crack (1.06 US version; imported by ACU).

Since all data blocks were at the same location, copying of cylinder 3 from the first version to the second version left me with a fully working medusa.dat! The game can now be HD installed without problems!
Enjoy! In the zone.

Yet I'd appreciate any redumps of this version from real disk.
Only include this one in TOSEC if there is really no chance of getting an unmodified 100% copy anywhere else (but I think there isn't, as the english version is very rare).

Give it a thorough play-thru (I hope you don't just collect the stuff ) and tell me if you can get to the end!

It seems that is 1.6 US version...
Btw, I'm writing a whd install (for 1.04 deutsch version), I will probably support your version.

medusa.dat file is ok, it contains same bytes than 1.04 deutsch version.

WOW! This is cool, thanks for the info.
I was about to think that the two medusa.dat's are different, with one containing texts from the german version, and the other the texts from the english version!
If you had told me this a bit earlier, I would have been able to do a fully-working english version in autumn 2004! Since everything worked with my first copy, except medusa.dat!

I've just started the whd install some days ago and see your US version here.
And compared medusa.dat 'cause size is identical.
The install will be finished soon and will support this US version.

1.06.
Where do you find this info?
Look inside "rings od medusa" exe file, you can read "Amiga version 1.6 (U.S.A.)"

Urghh. From the crackers' intro, therefore: FORGET THAT!
I should *never* rely on this crap, I forgot.

@macce2
I don't think there ever was an English release of Rings of Medusa GOLD, at least not for the Amiga.

Happy

Word has it that one bird in the hand is worth two in the bush, hence I had fixed that English release!

BUT ... now I've found a fully working version of the 1.6 MAD crack (ACU import) on an older CD, so here is it now!
Since unmodified versions are always the best choice, however, sometimes they're just unavailable.
