Dune2 Amiga 68k Port (OpenDune)
I have recently updated my OpenDune port to include some extra enhancements and fix up a few minor bugs.
For anyone with an 060 this will be the best way to play the classic Dune 2 on an Amiga [ Show youtube player ] Requirements: 1) An AGA/RTG Amiga with a fast 68060 processor 2) AHI installed (v4.18 recommended) 3) 3.1 ROMS (3.0 ROMS may cause it to run slowly) 4) A copy of the PC game data files (must be the correct version!) Features: * 256 colors * MIDI support * AHI Sound support * Fullscreen and window mode support * 2x Scale filter and magnification filter (increases resolution) I'll upload the latest fixes to AmiNet Last edited by NovaCoder; 22 July 2020 at 15:30. |

Cool! I'll check this out, but how fast is a fast 060? I tried the last version with my Blizzard 1260@66mhz CV3D in ZII mode and it was a slideshow.

I don't have a real Amiga to test with unfortunately but a few people have told me it runs fine at 60 MHz.
You have to make sure you are running v4.18 of AHI and that you are using a 'fast' mode. Obviously using the scaler or zoom level will slow it down (config file). Also look at reducing the frames down to say 15. |

I have just question - is possible to add OPL emulation for music from SCUMMVM to OpenDune when You don't have any camd.compatible hardware?

You should really look at adding some midi hardware to your Amiga set-up, lots of newer ports support real MIDI playback these days. This is what I use.. [ Show youtube player ] |

What is it that has turned a game which ran on a regular 68K processor into one that requires about the highest end set-up you can imagine. It is mainly just better graphics and sound, right? Assume the logic of the actual game isn't much different, and the zoom part is optional

An interesting video! So obviously this works well with you Open Dune 2 port but can you get standard Paula sound output too or is this the way you've programmed it? |

It's not a port for everyone but if you have a decent set-up it's the best way to play dune 2 on an Amiga Here is a great video comparison to show how OpenDune (256 color VGA) compares to the original Amiga port... [ Show youtube player ] Last edited by NovaCoder; 31 October 2022 at 01:25. |

It's a 320x200 game, so in AGA use "DISPLAY_MODE=NTSC" tooltype in the Dune2 icon for no black border in the video signal.
In RTG it needs 320x200, 640x400, 960x600, or 1280x800 screenmode determined by "scalefactor" option in the opendune.ini. |
