I tried to promote AnimFX with ModePro. AnimFX by default asks for an ID of 0xa1000 which is a DBLPALLORES_KEY. I selected to promote by screen mode using this ID. For Promotion, I selected "Screenmode" and a Voodoo:320x256 8bit screen and check marked "Force Planar". With these settings in ModePro, AnimFX will open the screen and play the animation with the correct sound but the screen gfx are corrupt. I believe I have the correct resolution for that key so it looks like ModePro is not going to work for AnimFX. It is close to working so it is possible some fidgeting could get it to work. If AnimFX allowed to select a screen mode, then it would be more likely to promote by selecting a RTG screen mode and checking "Force Planar" when it tried to open.

I got similar results with ModePro. It played the video, but with corrupt graphics. Probaby they do some copy operation natively. With other video players (viewtek, cyberanim, mainactor) it didn't have any effect.

Thanks for the hint. It's more clear in what it is doing.

Since AGA8 looks very good, but is too slow from Zorro RAM (on my Amiga), I looked into reducing colors. It turns out that AGA6/22KHz/25 FPS (full lores) appears to be fast enough with AnimFX. Not as colorful, but smooth (pre-loaded into memory). Reducing FPS to 20 did not allow to run it without stuttering.

As I looked into this, I went down to less and less colors, and couldn't resist to also try the C64 colors (came out of an experiment with AGA4 but with fixed 16 colors)

This might actually allow to also run it on slower Amigas, not just reducing framerate and resolution, but also color planes. Something like 18 FPS, AGA6, Half-lores (and double lines with the copper). I am not sure whether it would be worth it though ...
