Fairlight CMI Samples 4 Trackers (MAJOR UPDATE)

Here is the 1:1 conversion of the Fairlight CMI sample library straight from disk to 8svx to use with amiga! NOW WITH THE ORIGINAL LOOP AND ENVELOPE DATA PRESERVED!

The Fairlight Computer Musical Instrument was one of the first commercial digital sampling synthesizer in the early 1980s

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fairlight_CMI

This could be IMHO the highest quality sample library available for amiga, as this takes the original digital sample data from the source (8bit,A=14080khz) and is converted 1:1 without using a sampler. Note each sample it is perfectly tuned to C-3 and is very easy to reloop (128 cycles-long step always works).

Here you can find some of the ST-XX samples in its original form (you will be amazed how clear they sound even in the same sampling rate) and some others famous samples (this daw was used in almost every 80s hit).

The 8 bit library is divided in two parts:

I) The Original Library: Available in both IFF-8SVX (with the original loops preserved) and FastTracker XI (with the original envelope data).

II) The Recovered Library: Recovered from the remain faulty disks by hand using OctaMED SoundStudio. Duplicate files has been finally removed for convenience. It is available only in IFF-8SVX (with some loops by me). Most of modern pc-trackers use IFF without issues.

This is the final revision for the Fairlight Library (at least for me). To anyone who can find new loops for the recovered library: I'll hope see his work in this post, so the library will be updating by itself.

Happy tracking!!

Thanks. This is great. I idolized Vince Clarke and his Fairlight back in the 80s. I sent to Syco Systems for the pamphlet. I wish I still had it. I love the music Peter Gabriel, Kate Bush and Propaganda also created with it.

Akira, did you notice that in the somejustice med are some samples that aren't in the disks?

Im working on the rest of the disks for the library. These haven't been converted EVEN to WAV ever because the image disks are corrupted! Im doing raw editing by hand and weird format conversion job and guess what i've found... more than 500+ new sounds, including some very very famous!! And i've found some of the original loops... I'm amazed.

I promess I will release them as i've finished AMIGA FIRST. If I have some time i'll make a post about it. Of course, i'm doing all with Octamed in Winuae... editors nowadays doesn't have such precise range control.

The only thing I ask you in return is to give a hand to Gallahad and make some amiga sytle <100k modules for his project

http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=72282

he says _ALL_ the modules will be included.

Attached: load this sample NOW

PS: Again, sorry if my english is poor

Fairlight CMI 4 Amiga straight from disk (II)

I've converted uncompressed all the Fairlight IMD images to BIN using a command in CMIOS9, then loaded in octamed as a sample to check what was inside. The sound was there, but had a lot of distortion (wrong bit encoding format), so i played a little with the image in SoundBox and realised that an endian flip operation was only needed to obtain the amiga signet bit pcm. After convert all the files, they have been chopped in octamed and added loop by hand (128 byte-steps works perfect) if needed (not always!)

It has been a hard work, but I think it's a must to preserve these sounds and there was no tool to repair those faulty image disks.

I've found many duplicates, but didn't delete them even if they were faulty files (easy edit possible) to keep the disk content as much as possible. Sample names are missing because i couldn't look into any directory as you would figure.

Again, please upload the file to the zone

Thanks for watching. F$$K the obsolescence!!!

I don't think so. According to this screenshot from the SomeJustice demo by Tony Horgan & Urban Shakedown, there are 6 Sample Disk.

But, there are samples in the Somejustice module in this demo that aren't in these disks (for example the cc rogers original sample).
