Amiga PPC accelerators?

My CSPPC died years ago. It was revived a few times by AmigaCenter in France but finally it gave out.

It would be great if the Phase5 PPC developer board could be reproduced for use with existing accelerators. It could even bring PPC to the DraCo.

It seems like it would be less expensive to produce than a completely new accelerator with a lot of new extras (although that would be welcome too).

New PPC accelerators don't really interest me much, what exactly would you run on them?

I'd rather stay with an updated 3.9 and use the wealth of 68k software then move to OS4 and run the few PPC only releases.

If you look at what limits the classic hardware then they are obviously 4 main areas (graphics, hard drive, memory and CPU). To improve the ability of old hardware to use more modern software (if that's your thing!), then you need to look at boosting all areas and not just focus on one area.

The original poster said CSPPC; a Micronik board for the A1200 has an A3000/4000 compatible CPU slot.

Why not ask Jens to consider developing a PPC based ACA card? At least his response will be educational.

I wouldn't se any point to build PPC accelerator for classic Amigas, there are just too many bottle necks. Building PPC accelerator for Draco is different thing, as it doesn't have custom chipsets and it uses RTG only graphics, but wait... there is already similar solution...

You don't even need to handle modified ISA bus, there is a PCIe/PCI wich are many times faster than Drago's dragobus.

Amiga PPC accelerators?

The NG machines handle OS 4.1, have their own UAE, and can use open-source Linux applications. Not for everyone, but they do have their appeal. For those willing to buy Amiga PPC's, one CSPPC will get you a SAM system instead; two CSPPC's will get you an X1000.

It would be more interesting to design a "clone" A1200 mobo, featuring internal improvements running a highly overclocked 060... 100mhz or more.

PPC got stuck in classic hardware, it's a better idea go for a MacMini and MorphOS in order to use PPC software, (or OS4), the classic hardware is a severe bottleneck for the PPC... The chipset runs at 28mhz, and it's a great limitation...

If sometime Natami comes to light (sigh), it could be somehow redesigned to fit the A1200 board...

There are other projects that emulate Amiga using several types of hardware, and different degrees of implementation,
that could be redesigned in the future to fit into the A1200 case.

Change is coming for Blizzard PPC card and now follow in the footstep of the Cyberstorm PPC card and operate on three oscillators.

Final push from 41.5Mhz PCI to AGP speed. (Bvision)

NOTE: G-REX is affected by this and now may work with rev0 but I have no way of testing G-REX as I don't own such a card.

G-REX & two faulty Bvision card is needed for final test and must be listed on fleebay.
