Wicher 500i HDD LED

Hi,
Does anyone know how to activate the Wicher 500i HDD LED. I tried connecting LEDs to the HDD LED connector on the board but it does nothing. Just wondering if there's a jumper setting I need or something like that.

Silly question but did you try LED both way round as it is polarity dependent?

Yeah, I did. Also tried a couple of different LEDs which definitely work and no luck.:T Thanks for the reply though.

On a sidenote, I'm not using the recommended 3.1 rom, I'm using 2.05. Would that affect something like this?

I doubt ROM would make a difference. Pin 39 is the pin that sends HDD on standard IDE adapters so possibly same for Wicher IDE interface.

So in theory could I solder something to that pin to get the same effect?

That's only assuming Wicher is the same. Test it in series.

Wait send pic of board... 1st. Close up ideally.

I've seen a board with a jumper over the HDD LED. Hence need to remove the jumper and attach the LED over that?

Or check the connectivity to Pin 39.

Yes looks the same. Hmmm try checking the pins for connectivity. Could be broken link?

Ok where am I checking from? Is it from pin 39 on the wicher side to pin 39 on the IDE adapter side? Because that is connected ok.

Is the IDE enabled in Wicher settings? Without it you will get no HDD activity. Take a look here for options:

I tried installing WicherInstaller software several times but every time I boot after installation the whole thing crashes. I can't even get to Workbench. I had to reinstall everything.

But surely if the IDE weren't working the HDD wouldn't boot at all. I'm able to access the hard disk without any problems so long as I don't install the software. Is that the only way to get the LED working?

I only know it when using the software. Sorry I wouldn't know what else to advise.

So I found a solution to this. Thought I'd share it in case anyone else runs into the same issue. It was simply a case of the IDE adapter not being capable of activating the LED.:T I had to get a new one which does.

So now that the LED is working I've got a new problem. It's not powerful enough! The A500 activity lights are made up of 2 LEDs in one unit. I think it's only drawing enough power for one and spreading it across the two. Does anyone have any idea of how I could boost it?

Ok I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to this stuff. Is there a tutorial or diagram out there that I could use?

There is a thread where I connected a 3 pin MOSFET to my IDE2SD adaptor. Same principle but using a transistor instead. However, I'm not familiar with lack of power infact the whole point of that was to prevent even small currents activating the LED?

Hmm, well I've found some videos about using a transistor as an amplifier. Nothing quite specific enough but you've put me on the right track I think. I'll keep looking.
