Should autofire be allowed in "speedrun/timeattack" recordings?

WinUAE has a built in autofire function, and the site I will soon to open (read about it here) will be a upload-your-fastest-speedrun-movie. Cheating in games will of course not be allowed, but how about autofire?. I'n many games, you kick ass so much faster and better with autofire.

I say "NO".... no cheating, no autofire.

I vote "Yes" because if it can be done with a Competition Pro (or nearly any other joystick), it's not cheating. After all, using decent hardware always gives you a little advantage - you don't force people to switch from a GeForce 6800 to a Riva TNT just to have less frames and response time in fast action titles. As you don't force people to use cheap joysticks when they can have something with built in autofire. ;-)

It's ok to have autofire function because many joysticks have it too. No reason for it not being there.

Of course better hardware in a computer is not cheating, but then again, if any hardware to enchant playing, as you say, is allowed and are not cheating, how about those hardware thingies called Action Replay?, it's also there for enchanting game playing, just like a autofire on a joystick is. Autofire on a joystick is just to help people in games, just like action replay... both are cheating ways, except better hardware for the computer like gfx card etc.

Then having the benefit of owning a joystick with autofire would be the same as having the benefit of owning an action replay. There are also joysticks with a slowmotion button... cheat cheat cheat...

The games should be meant to be played as they are, not with help.

Just what I think , but guess "yes" for autofire will win anyway.

Thing is.. go into a replay and it'll be recorded

Maybe toni can add a timer to the display so that can be recorded too.. this way you'll see if a video has been edited mid-game

nah, the Action Replay (or any similar cartridge) alone won't help you win any game. If you are refering to entering cheat codes / altering hex values with the cartridge, well *that's* cheating because you alter the program itself. Using autofire doesn't modify anything in the software and is a whole different matter to me.

Your point is like saying "wheee, no, you can't use a joystick or even a steering wheel to play a racing game, because there may be some people who use the keyboard to play it, and that's harder, so they have a disadvantage". Well, they do, no doubt about it. But I never heard anyone demanding to plug off sticks and wheels just for people to get even...

Autofire means cheating.
That's why I voted no.
