Cyberstorm Mk2 and OS31

Hello there my fellow forum chummies,

I have a bit of a problem.... and I think it comes down to good'ol Setpatch.

Recently (with much thanks to Thomas) I have an A4000 running with a Cyberstorm Mk2 060.... now... orignally I used a very basic install of workbench 3.0, infact all I did was copy the data from the FDD to the HDD... job done... its boots were happy.... however.... now the fun begins...

after seting up a 3.1 install (yes that includes CSmk2 060 libs etc) all the system does is reboot- reboot and yep you guessed it.... reboot some more.... then a nice little guru and back to rebooting again...

I booted without startup-sequence and loadwb from cli... workbanch boots okay (although limmited).... so i edited the startup-sequence the only thing I noticed that could cause a problem was setpatch... as its first in the sequence... so commented that out, and she boots okay to workbench...

so now... I need to find a compatible setpatch for the Cyberstorm mk2

I have never had an issue with Setpatch before (obviously this one is not CSMk2 tollerant)

any help is appreciated

Did u give another setpatch version a try?

Like this version created by Heinz Wrobel?
http://aminet.net/util/boot/SetPatch_43.6b.lha

I did use it with different Cyberstorms, especially since i use the NSDPatch too.

OS3.1 will run on Kick 3.0 too .. but better use Kick 3.1 instead.

that's strange... I never had any crashes on 3.1 with my mk2/060 .... what I found though, was that the mk2 does not work with goldengate cards... the mk2 firmware is way too buggy IMHO

Double check your 040/060 libs.

IIRC, you need to rename the existing C= 68040.library to 68040old.library, P5 68040dummy.library to 68040.library, and copy the P5 68060.library.

@Zetr0: This is your second problem with the CSMKII which could have been avoided by reading the manual. Didn't you read the manual ? It tells you to check the motherboard jumpers and it also tells you to install the software *before* you install the hardware.

The problem is that AmigaOS does not recognise anything better than a 68040. But if you try to run a 68060 with 68040.library, it crashes, reboots, crashes, reboots, crashes, reboots and so on.

You have to replace 68040.library by the dummy lib and install 68060.library. The old 68040.library can be deleted if you don't plan to remove the CSMK2 again.

In order to boot from the Install disk (which does crash/reboot, too) you can replace its 68040.library by the dummy lib, too. There is not enough space on the disk to copy 68060.library to it, so you have to add it manually later after the installation.

The manual for the CSMK2 is available there: http://phase5.a1k.org/index.php?id=2
The software for the CSMK2 can be downloaded from there: http://powerup.amigaworld.de/index.php?lang=en&page=13

@Skylight

indeed, KS3.1 with OS 3.1

16MB Fast + 2MB Chip + CSMk2 60@50 +128MB Ram

Alas I have not tried the other version of setpatch, although I may should the next steps not work.

@Keropi

clearly as you have owned every Amiga, and lots of A4000's... i figure that they like you... this one.... that I have here.... is just playing hard to get.... so english its scairy!!!

@thomas

I promise sir, I did use google... alas all i could find was the Mk3 unit. honest guv!

I used WINUAE to setup the 3.1 and then installed said disks from DMS files, the disk i used for install was from amiga.resource.cx *system disk 431*

when that didin't work I used "system disk 432" and that claimed it had copied all the libs over.

I have now printed out the manual! and will endver to make sure the libs are across properly

Thomas is right about the dummy 68040.library.
This library will redirect all calls to the 68060.library.

But Zetr0 said he copied all libs.

And you MUST NOT install the software before installing the hardware.
Since you can still boot without startup-sequence or from floppy drive.
Otherwise you would be in trouble if u just own this CPU board.
I always had a selfmade maintenance boot disk with all necessary tools for these cases. Some kind of "Ultimate Boot Disk".

Thomas ... sometimes you are sounding like an irritated teacher, but we r not at school!

Typical German mistake. You may and you should install the software first, but you don't need to.

What I actually wanted to point out was that if you follow the manual you don't get any problems. But if you first install the hardware you are not able to boot any more and you need to know what is causing that to correct it. A beginner won't find the error by himself.
