A590 beautifully modded - but can i get more ram?

Hi Guys.

I think you'll cut me down, and that's fine.

I got a wonderfully modded A590 that has a SCSI2SD v6 in it that runs a WB2.0 or a WB1.3 depending on the card i use. It has v6.0 roms but the v7.0 should be arriving anyday now.

And it has 2mb fast ram nicely populating the board.

Question .. can the ram chips be upgraded so i can have MORE memory? I don't have a full changelog of the v7 rom chip but wondered if maybe they made it able to address more memory?
There's a clonking great chip in the middle of the board too, kinda reminds me of the fat agnus chip, maybe there's an upgrade in there much like the 8371 to 8372a upgrade to help address more memory for chip in the A500?

I will soon be doing the 1mg chip upgrade on the A500, so i'll be losing a little fast memory and most other memory upgrades seem to use the same port as the A590 but i kinda love having that bulky A590 hanging out the side of my A500 so it stays, just hoping to get more out of it if possible.

Hi,

Unfortunately you can't get more RAM that easily. The support circuitry is not present in there, a software change is not sufficient. A better idea is to just remove the RAM from the A590 and use a separate AmigaBUS or 68000 socket RAM expansion.

OK, good to know, it wasn't a "have to have it now" thing, more like, if there's anymore i can do, that's' great, so i'll leave it as it is.... 1mb chip and 2mb fast is good enough for now. The A4000 does the grunt when i need to show off something more... fancy.

also, fast memory expansions attached to the left hand side expansion connector cannot be used as chip mem, regardles of your agnus.

I have recently acquired a A590 with 2mb fast ram but the 20mb HD needs changing. This SCSI2SD interface you have sounds ideal.

Do you mind me asking where you got your SCSI2SD interface from?

For me too, 2mb Fast RAM will probably be enough - I use my A500 with a Gotek so Whdload is not so important.

Not sure which part you got that from but that was NOT my intention.... and exactly as it should be.

The new SCSI2SD is great. With the last beta the author sent me, the A590 now does 3MB/s with a V6 board in sync mode.

Regarding the initial question, it would be better to disable the RAM in A590, and attach
a non-autoconfig CPU socket RAM expansion, which would allow more continous RAM, as Jope said.

The A590 will DMA fine to any RAM in the 24 bit area.
