At 1st I was pretty excited to have an affordable OS4 machine option, but after spending a bit of time on OS4 centric sites Im really not sure I want to be a part of that community. There's clowns in all amiga derived communities, but the OS4.x ones really take the cake.
Shame, cos there's also some decent people there, but being that my main interest is in development I really dont know if I want to spend my time creating things for a bunch of morons.

I've always wanted to have a play with an OS4 machine but the prohibitively expensive nature of the hardware has always put me off.

From what I have seen, OS4 doesn't really meet the requirements to replace most of my main computing needs. It looks like it might be suitable for light use, you know like browsing and generally tinkering with things, but it's hard to justify that when I need to own a more mainstream computer for other needs anyway. Plus it wouldn't replace my classic systems because I will always want to use my classic hardware for games and other old software.

For this reason, the cheaper the better really and if it comes out in the target price range I will finally be able to strongly consider it.

If it actually cost under $500, I'd totally go for something like that.

I'm definitely going to get an AmigaOS 4.x netbook when it is released. No doubt about it.

So far, on EAB we have a potential new AmigaOS4x user base of 60.

That would equate to a Hyperion potential turnover of between $18000 and $30000
Whilst this isn't big numbers, it is better than a poke in the eye with a plastic daffodil

1 GBP = 1.59990 USD

Interested to see what we EAB users think...

Public poll.
Can it be done technically for that price?

Honestly no and the reason will be always the same: the PowerPC chip. I'll still stick with AROS, for 'fiddling around' is more than good enough .

Yes it would useful take with me to work, for lite browsing with TimberWolf, and TuneNet etc. Hopefully will also encourage developers
to better optimize their code, which should benefit classic OS4 users as well.

What about the ppc chip? Unfortunately we need it to run new version of AmigaOS.
and unfortunately a 3ghz version of 060 never came :P

I might. Voted yes, previous owner. If they get reasonable shader support in the graphics chips I may be able to have some fun with it. I paid way too much for my Micro-A1 though. Maybe this machine will make up the difference.

+1

Oh, but i'm first in line, and i'll fight for that position. I've been hankering for an Amiga OS 4X netbook for too long. Make it a solid €350 and you Hyperion guys will send enough of a ripple to make the mainstream notice.

Keep it SSD, good choice.... and for the future? give it 6 months, then release a Tablet based on the same tech and a free app depository and then you're pretty much good to go and rock and roll... take on Android and iOS... well why the hell not? It's the perfect place for Amiga OS.

Wow I'm one of only two people who have an OS4.x system that wouldn't buy this

Don't get me wrong I think it's a pretty awesome idea but I already have a few PPC's here and on the move I use WinUAE on my Netbook which is a good enough fix for me.

Great to see so many people interested in this though

Steve.

Is it known who is manufacturing these? At first I'd guess A-EON but I think they are too busy with X1000...

It was announced at Amiwest by Steve Solie of Hyperion. It was later confirmed by Trevor D from A-Eon. Also in attendance were Amigakit.

I'll guess its the same deal as with X1000 then... A-Eon making it, Amigakit selling it.
