It's a Knockout! 2013/14: Qualifying Round - Test Drive II: The Duel

It's a Knockout! 2013/14: Qualifying Round - Test Drive II: The Duel

Starts: 00:01 December 1 Finishes: 23:59 December 14

And it starts again - time to put the regular league to one side and focus on the annual Knockout competition instead.

Rules

Rules are available here. Super League rules are here.

- Master cars and Master scenery only
- Highest difficulty setting
- Against the clock

Post a picture of your score here with the score written underneath. Enter as often as you like.

Tied scores will be separated by whoever submitted their score first.

No cheating (including save states) - anyone caught cheating gets disqualified.

Here's how the qualifying system works:

Between 9-13 people enter: 8 people qualify.
Between 14-17 people enter: 12 people qualify.
18+ people enter: 16 people qualify.

Remember you have to enter this round to have any chance of playing later on - but please only enter if you feel you will be able to commit to playing the full tournament (this is important, too many people who qualify and then don't take part in the later rounds which spoils the competition).

Have fun and feel free to ask any questions you may have.

I know the porsche is slower than the ferrari and seems to handle the same.. probably just coincidence that I finished all the tracks for the first time on my first run with the porsche

I'm sure there is no harm in saying I think the ferrari has the best accelleration, but the porsche has very good brakes. They drive fairly similarly but perhaps the porsche has better grip? At any rate, I think the farrari is still the only choice.

btw, if anyone thinks the game is slow and unplayable, either switch your PAL machine to NTSC mode or select 60fps on winUAE to play this at an enjoyable speed. Thats what I'm doing and its also within the rules to do so.

@mods: please could someone make the score table?

We don't appear to have a proper score table so I've added a (temporary?) one I have written in manually for the time being, like we used to do in the old days (funny how I take all the stuff being generated to copy and paste for granted these days).

@ Capehorn - I thought you liked driving games??

@ Harry - you voted for this too. Should be easy with your skills.

Will not put much effort in this qualifying, because I think that I wont survive Downfall anyway.

There is a lot of worry on Lemon that there aren't many competitors at the moment. I was going to put most effort in next week, but I'll post a score now to keep things ticking along.

We had 22 players for this earlier in the season. I hope some of them turn up a bit later on, this may be a divisive game but there are some great games to be played later on - Pinball Fantasies, ATR, Lotus and our very own Downfall. The more people who enter, the more people will go through later and the better chance everyone will have.

I'm not a fan of this game at all. I only voted for it because it was clearly going to be played at some point and I wanted it in an early round as it gave me the best chance to qualify. Assuming I get through, I'm quite excited about the rest of the knockout.

This is the truth for sure

I'm in again, love certain Amiga driving games. When you look at Amiga vs the 16 bit consoles, this is an genre the Amiga was completely in the lead on.

I'm struggling to get anywhere close to my scores achieved back in February.
I hope to improve, otherwise I'll won't even qualify for the other rounds where I would have done well

I know I could kill those top scores but its not fun when its just for qualifying. I feel the same way about downfall, but at least this time it looks like I wont have to face off against graham.

6 v 6 in the knockout at this point.

No, last time it was 3x3x3x3 with top 2 in each group progressing.

Also remember groups for the next round are seeded based on position.

True, of course I meant 6 participants from each team have qualified in general.

I still don't feel very safe, so after work tomorrow (yup, gotta work on a Saturday!) I will come home and try to increase my score by atleast 50K.

Great... I just got home from work an hour ago... only to have to work my ass off to make sure I get through! (not taking anything for granted... Graham could be out drinking )
Still, I only need an extra 5K minimum
