??? But you know that Doom ist running with AGA/030 (good) or AGA/060 (perfectly)? Even Quake I is playable on AGA/060 (70% screensize) The question about Amiga-RE is not a question of hardwarepower. They just turned that game into a very boring point & click. |

@mombasajoe
Doom is pretty good on an 060 but arguably doesn`t have that many REAL textured polygons on screen at any time, not to mention they are all at fixed angles pre-calculated. indeed some of the methods used in DOOM could be used in a RE version on an amiga, especialy pre-calculation due to the fact that each screen has a fixed camera angle indeed thinking about it now. if each screen uses a hash tree that is LOADED from the disk instead of pre-calculated then this really would improve the speed of the amiga engine (would needs some ram for this though). to be honest RE: Amiga would be something i would love to code... well my friend, i am going to have to disagree with you on Quake. I ran quake on my 060 @50mhz +32MB Fast +4MB CV643dMk2 and it struggled to do more than 12fps in the lowest screen mode.. i found it not even 30% playable to be sincerely honnest LOL. The irony is that it was a few months later I did actually find away that would push the frame rates over 180fps in 800x600.... I bought an Athlon 900mhz PC... |

Download fastquake from aminet, it seems to fix some bugs in wad file.
It helped me a lot. It doesn't reduce graphics anyway |

You know with discussion in recent threads, its highly possible that my 060EC states that it has a full MMU / FPU (i suspect this is due to motorola selling non-tested 68060's as EC to meet demand) well its highly possible that with intensive FPU use that the performace drops considerably... either that or my math libs suck the big one... i should get HS maths libs.... its only a couple of bucks...
