Amiga OS 3.5 install problems

Hey

I just ran the 3.1 install off the 3,5 cd, went through fine, next is the pre-install, i try torun it and press proceed but absoloutley nothing happens, is there a known issue with installing os 3.5?

cheers for help

EDIT

since the preinstall doesnt work, does anyone know the files the preinstall copies?? (it isnt many)

Maybe I could put them over manually then run the full installer?

OS 3.5 needs Kickstart 3.1. "Nothing" usually happens if your Amiga only has Kick 3.0.

Manual installation won't help, 3.5 does not run with Kickstart 3.0.

@Alias

Glad to see you are getting there one step at a time, If you have the 3.1 ROM image, you can get your HD setup via WinUAE with OS3.5 as mentioned in a previous thread ready to pop into your A1200 when your ROMS arrive.
Install any other utilities such as WHDLoad with WinUAE as well without having to transfer to floppy.

You've got an Escom A1200 with kick 3.0?? I've never seen that before... maybe a previous owner swapped the chips out

well thats the thing, I have the escom reinstallation (all copies) disks, but that doesn't mean it is an escom 1200, maybe it's an original one and someone lost the original 1200 floppies and copied the escom ones off someone else??

I take it the badge underneath would of been different on the later escoms? IE not saying commodore but Escom? (maybe not)

installing through UAE isn't really an option for me, my Linux machine wont recognise the drive because of the RDB, I was going to use amigafdisk and fill it with zero's, but I like messing around so it'll be wiring up my cdrom and installing my network adapter

I'd assume that if it doesn't say Commodore on it it's not a Commodore machine...

The badge on the top will be the 'new style' AMiGA logo in black and red if it's an Escom shell. As Graham said if there is a C= logo on the top then it isn't.

sorry

it boots I think, but I cant see it, white lines moving up the screen as if the tv isnt tuned in properly, but it isn't going through an RF, its through the yellow comp port, I tried editing my startup-seq with SKIPROMMODULES scsi.device but I kept getting "not enough arguments"

EDIT

Just formatted back to 3.0, updated to 3.1, then did preinstalled 3.5 and its done same thing again this is really weird, anyone else ever seen this before? heres a pic:

here

appologies for slow load time and thanks for any help

EDIT

I noticed on startup the Amiga crashes (flashing power light, one flash? not a crash?) then restarts, then i get the above, maybe its the 3.1 roms i installed?

& WB3.1 Installed runs fine....

Wierd I have not seen that before, Do you have an accelerator fitted which may need it's firmware upgraded,

You do have FastRAM installed if so how? standalone or with an Accelerator..

Sorry can't be more help at the moment.

yup, 3.1 went through fine
I have the blizzard mk3 installed with 16mb fastram, i tried removing it, same thing happened.

Its really strange, i plugged the ami into my LCD, i could see workbench but it was very messed up, like a half and half view while at the same time looking as if it wasn't tuned in

OK just to be sure, Connect you Accelerator, and boot the ami from WB3.1 Floppy.

Access the HD and look for the DEVS folder, inside that folder should be a folder called Monitors, make sure the only file in there is the "PAL" monitor type, if not copy it over from the 3.1 storage floppy /Monitors.
Then Reboot OS3.5

Thats all that comes to mind at the moment.

Good luck

hi
in your startup sequence, it should look like this if you have a fast ata with OS3.5

C:SetPatch QUIET SKIPROMUPDATES scsi.device
C:CheckLMB
IF WARN
SYS:Prefs/ATA3Prefs
ENDIF
C:ATA3.driver QUIET

did you make sure that your 3.1 roms are fitted correctly ?
391774-01 top
391773-01 bottom and you have 2 vacant holes on your left ?

This is normal under 3.5/3.9. It happens when setpatch loads the ROMupdate file and ptches kickstart.

I was gonna add, try removing all the monitor modes from DEVS/MONITORS and reboot. I had this problem with MUI on my a1200 as it runs through the RGB-SCART and MUI registration screen loads in DBL-PAL MODE.

Also if the monitor modes are availble, some applications will utilise them, like MUI. However, if your display output is unable to support the resolution you'd best remove the availability of them.
