WTB: A1200 RAM Board
Hi all
Just after a RAM board for an A1200. What you got? Name your price! Needs to be compatible with PCMCIA slot (or at least allow 4mb with PCMCIA use) Cheers Chris |

FYI no A1200 RAM board can be PCMCIA friendly and support more than 4Mbytes of RAM.
(Well ok in theory they could have supported upto 5.5Mbytes and been PCMCIA friendly but non ever did!) Only accelerators which have a CPU with a 32-bit address bus can have more than 4Mbyte and be PCMCIA friendly. |

Thanks for that. So with 4mb on a RAM board would I get 6mb inc. the A1200 on-board RAM?

Yup. All 8Mbyte RAM boards for A1200 (that I've ever read about) have a 4Mbyte jumper setting.
Dont be wooed into paying extra for an FPU, nothing (of any significance) uses them! Last edited by alexh; 01 October 2008 at 00:25. |

@tonyyeb
With 4MB expansion Trapdoor Expansion, you would get the 2MB chipram which you have now (as standard) & 4MB Fast RAM, in total yes 6MB but the type of RAM is used differently. Fast RAM is directly accessed by the CPU & does not have to wait for the AGA chipset to allow it access to the RAM as is the case with chipram. Therefore you will get an approx X2 speed boost on your A1200 due to the fact you will have Fast RAM. TC |

If you do get hold of any 8mb that works with it, keep it.
It's always handy if you know you are not going to be using the PCMCIA slot for a while and you fancy just WHDloading. |

Well I got an Elbox 1200/0-8 RAM board for £10 but guess what, it doesn't want to work. It was sold without a battery and bit of decay where the battery was. I've tested the tracks and they all still work. Tried three different SIMMs in it but still no joy. I think the guy who sold it as 'untested' knew it didn't work.
Ill now be looking at the kind offers made by forum members. Lesson learnt. The cheapest deal isn't always the best deal... just when times are hard I just can't resist a 'bargain'! |

Post some pics... perhaps I we can advise what to look for.
Does if have the FPU? If so does it have the Crystal oscillator? If not what are the jumper settings? If the IC chips are socketed might be worth changing one or two if you have spares. |

No FPU. I *feel* I have tried every jumper combination. With the RAM jumper removed the A1200 boots. With the RAM jumper on and no SIMM it boots to an expansion board diagnostic stating a faulty board but I thought that would be the normal outcome. EDO RAM makes it flash various full colour screens (green, red etc...)
If anyone fancies having a go at a repair then please get in touch! |

I think the issue is the pube in picture one causing a static discharge...

Just a bit darker than the rest on close inspection. It looks straight from the other angle.
