Amiga setup.

Hi,
I have my Amiga 500 and am looking to set it up.
It has been a long time since I have done this and have
Forgotten how to do it. Are there any pictures in any threads that show instructions and or pictures of what I need to do? I have an lcd TV I am trying to tune into the
Amiga and having no luck. I would appreciate it if someone could help, my son is very keen to have a go.

Hey Beaks,

I've never actually used the A520 but I can try to help.

Have you connected the 'Video Out' (colour composite) from the A520 to the LCD TV's composite in? Or have you connected the 'RF Out' to the TVs RF in?

If the former you'll just have to change the TVs input to composite and hope it accepts the signal. If the later hopefully your TV has some sort of auto-tune for terrestrial broadcasts? (i.e. hopefully the TV can tune itself to the RF signal).

I would check the Amiga is in working order though. If you pop a disk in the drive does it seem like it's loading it? You can also connect the mono composite port on the back of the Amiga directly to the TV in case the A520 or RGB port is faulty.

Lastly it's worth noting that the A520 will never give a particularly clear picture. If your LCD TV has SCART then a SCART lead for your A500 would give a better picture and won't break the bank. However not all modern TVs with SCART can accept the signal, so it's a bit of a roll of the dice.

Definitely try to use the video out on the A520 -> composite input on the tv instead of the rf out. :-)

In my mind, all A520s should be binned. No point in using RF these days when we can use RGB SCART cables. In lack of better, the composite output on the A520 can be useful though as the onboard RCA video out on the A500 only provides a B/W picture.

As mentioned, first you need to make sure the Amiga is actually working. If the battery has not been removed, chances are it has leaked already and is well on its way to destroy the motherboard if it hasn't already. After you turn it on, you should hear a periodic clicking sound from the floppy drive. If not, then it probably is not working and you will not be able to get a picture.

In any case, open it up and remove the battery ASAP. The Amiga will work fine without it, except for the clock which will lose its setting when the power is off.
