Robocop Redux, 3D

http://hol.abime.net/?id=1262

anyone have any info on Robocop 3D and Redux? HOL lists them, but I have never heard of em (Well robocop 3d is 3!)

I'd like to see a scan of a magazine review or box

Or even better maybe some ADF's wich have the 3D or Reddux in the title!

If these don't exist then HOL is incorrect, if Hol is correct then we have some RARE versions to find!

Oh! and Amiga World apparently reviewed Reddux.. look here (Scroll down)

This is what I thought, but I'd still like to see them.

Sorta like finding Magic Pockets US.

Nice to see the alternate box scans etc..

Eek

Wow. Nice list there at that Amiga World site. Does anyone know if there is an Amiga Format equivalent which lists all the reviews and their respective issue/page number?

Robocop 3D

The Redux version is simply the Platinum Budget Edition that didn't have dongle protection, and some of the self modifying code was removed so that it would work properly on AGA machines.

Read Redux as Budget

Actually, it gave Ocean a much harder time than the crackers.

Robocop 3

Was goten from the software distributors (Gem as I recall) on a Friday morning, the same morning Gaston had it transferred to him, by that evening he had cracked it.

Unfortunately the protection was quite formulaic in its operation which is why Gaston was able to write a generic routine that would not only decrypt the game files as it loaded, but patch the dongle check code.

Ocean always maintained that we got it early... we did not!

As a protection system it was different to the countless Copylock 'protected' games, but that doesn't mean it was hard.

I think Gaston had it all done in about 5 hours.

It wasn't the copy protection scheme Ocean thought it was!

Caused a lot of pain for Ocean's PR man, Gary Bracey, too from memory. If I remember the story rightly, just before the game's release he crowed in all the major Ami mags that the dongle protection would never be broken (or at least would take some weeks to crack). Then the game went on sale and was cracked on the first day. Soon after Bracey lost his job, which presumably was a result of the whole debacle (and his big mouth which started it all!).

Anyone know what happened to Gary Bracey after that?!

I heard that he didn't get fired at all. That it was a complete fabrication that somehow was accepted as truth.

Could be......but that was the story reported by a few of the mags back then.

Curiously, though, I can't remember seeing Gary Bracey doing the PR stuff in the mags for Ocean much after that incident. He had been working for Ocean for quite a while before that and rarely missed an opportunity to plug Ocean's stuff. Ocean probably went into damage control and decided he should worry more about managing the software projects rather than plugging them.

Still would be interesting to know what has happened to Gary Bracey.

I honestly can't remember. But Robocop was released in 1992 (looking at HOL)? But here is credited with the following games:

Jurassic Park (1993), Arcadia, Ocean, Sega
TFX (1993), Ocean
Pushover (1992), Ocean
