A cleanup of the input section

Would it be possible the clean up the 'input' section of the GUI for the purposes of gaming, since for the average user it might be a little difficult to work out.

Could I suggest the follow :

A drop down box, which lists all the available methods of input :

Mouse
Keyboard
Joystick 0
Joystick 1
Joystick 2 etc...

When you select an option from this ComboBox/ListBox you are then able to map the buttons. So for the keyboard, you can select up/down/left/right/fire0/fire1 and map them to keys. For a joystick you can then map the buttons fire0 and fire1.

...and then in another section you can assign an item to each port, much like the current system but using the items in the combo/listbox as listed above?

It's just a thought...! If anyones interested I could draw out a scheme of what I think it should look like.

If they're not, then I'll go quietly

Yeah, I think this sounds like a good idea.

I've been slightly annoyed when using WinUAE on my laptop because the preconfigured key configuration with the arrow keys use the right ctrl for fire (hope I've got it right now ) but my laptop hasn't got any right Ctrl key... So I've had to use the config using the numpad, which means I'll have to activate NumLock every time I want to play games. Of course I know it's possible to reconfigure the keys, but I feel there should be a slightly more straightforward and easy way to configure them (like the ones often found in console emus).

Argh, never compare to console emus if I can hear you

Consoles have only one type of control device (joypad) which naturally makes configuration much simpler. Amiga has keyboard, 1 or 2 mice and 1 or 2 joysticks + possible parallel joystick adapter..

Configuration must be as flexible as possible.

GUI stays that way until someone rewrites it completely and it won't be me. I am programmer not GUI designer or something like that
