A3000 video issues

I recently purchased an Amiga 3000, the video out to the 1084 monitor works fine, however the 15pin output to a VGA is garbled/flickering (not too much, stuff is still readable) but after about 3 minutes it completely stabilizes (you can see it getting better as time passes). Any ideas on what could be the issue? Any chip to test, Amber?

Perfectly normal VGA out behaviour for the A3000.

As a prior owner of an A3000, I will flatly call out that this is FALSE. A working A3000 produces perfectly good VGA output from the second you turn it on.

As to what is causing it, that sounds like decoupling capacitors on Amber or the framebuffer RAM is starting to go.

Lots of A3000s exhibit this issue, some worse than others. Adjust the little pot next to the VGA connector - that's usually all there is to it.

The pot is not to be touched until the flickerfixer circuit is warmed up..

There is definitely something wrong in there, perhaps a dried capacitor somewhere, but I have no personal experience fixing this issue, so no help from me. :-(

Well, replacing caps didn't do a thing on the two I own. Just a smidge on the adjustment pot (doesn't take much) cured both, rock solid output now when cold.

--edit - obviously, it's still a good idea to replace caps on old hardware - just didn't have any effect for me with this particular issue... YMMV.

Dave Haynie is about.... imagine if you could send Dave a duff 3000 board. I bet he could restore any 2000/3000 board just by rubbing it along his chest /sigh.
