Amiga 1200 Issue after very long storage

Guys

I just dug out my A1200 after a 1.5 Year storage to transfer some ADFs to Floppy and upon the first boot up I only got a black screen and the HDD was making a clicking sound almost like struggling to power up the drive. I tried removing the ACA1230 accelerator card and the issue persisted. Also removing the HDD didn't make the black screen go away. However after having the machine running for 5+ minutes it is working perfectly now. I cannot duplicate the issue.

Now it starts every time. I am using a A500 power supply which is working perfectly since I had powered up my A500 to test the Vampire Accelerator.

Note that I had this issue before and it seems it has to do with having the machine un-powered for a very long time. Could there be some pattern there. I also had a similar issue with an C128 that wasn't power up for 23+ years and after 5 minutes of having a black screen everything was working fine. I am also having a similar issue with my A2000 which also happens after very long periods of inactivity.

Could this issue be capacitor related? I have the cap replacement kit from Amigakit. Maybe a good time to replace?

Any ideas?

Thanks

Mike

Yeah, those sorts of issues make me suspect the capacitors. I would also suggest that the capacitors in the PSU could cause symptoms like that, but if it's already working fine on the A500 then that's less likely.

Anyway, if the capacitors in the A1200 haven't been replaced yet, now is definitely a good time to replace them.
