There is one game missing in the poll: The Portal Kumquat. If I remember well, it was a PD beat-em-up, a match of lemon vs orange

For myself IK+ and Shadow Fighter are the most playable and accomplished beat em ups on the Amiga. IK+ is just sheer class, the perfect pick up and play game! Shadow Fighter may have some sub par/unbalanced characters, but all in all it's very ambitious and comes across as a very polished product.

I don't really understand this hate for one-button controls.

Yes, having several buttons for weak, medium, strong/fierce/whatever allows more precise control. But one-button control can be effective too.

IK+ and Barbarian work very well this way I believe.
SFII too IMO (but I know a lot of people dislike the game anyway).

The games listed in this thread are Fighting games, not Beat 'em Ups. In Beat 'em Ups you walk around and "beat them up" - them being dozens and dozens of thugs.
(I also used to call Fighting games Beat 'em Ups.)
+1

I was thinking exactly that, and about to make a post to correct it, but i decided to read all posts first, and good i did, because you said it very well. But i would place Golden Axe on first place maybe, it's really well done on the Amiga , if i remember right

I get this alot to, mostly from my console owning friends, to them the notion of using a single buttom is just too much to get their heards around

Don't worry. It's just there purely out of morbid curiosity. Will anyone actually pick the thing? I certainly hope not.

Edit: There's always one isn't there.
It looks like there are 4 of us, actually.

I don't know why anyone would slam ROTR and then vote for MK2, as it has similar/worse gameplay issues, funny how everyone overlooks that...
(see eg. http://www.ppa.pl/gry/interview-with...auntlet-2.html: "Each opponent can be easily defeated even on the hardest difficulty level. Jumping back and pressing fire in the right moment is enough.") And at least ROTR was HD-installable...

Capital punishment is even worst than Rise of the Robots.
I had CP original and it always crashed at some point.

Pure 100% garbage.

IK+ wipes the floor with those dirt games !!! ( Rise & Capital )

Old poll, I know, but I just stumbled upon it today. Shadow Fighter is really the best miggy fighter of the lot. Big fast sprites, great gameplay, many specials, excellent scrolling, many varied characters. It's really untouchable imo.

I know it's not technically a "beat em up" but really Barbarian is up there with IK+ in my opinion.

Best use of the hardware and 1 button joystick beaten only by IK+.

Surprising that nobody picked primal rage. I did have a lot of fun with that game on the PC. Possibly the Amiga port is just really terrible?

I think the Amiga port is good, though I only played a demo many many moons ago.

Yes, it's awful with visual side, but as beat-em-up it's avarage. For me best it Fightin'spirit.
