Full Contact was a great yie-ar-kung-fu clone, with superb graphics. One of my first Amiga games, actually... absolutely loved it.

But the fighting game I played the most against my friends (tournaments and all), was Shadow Fighter AGA. Fantastic game, and I loved using the 14 year old little fella. He was extremely agile and fun to play with. Particularly fun to play against the huge dark-skinned guy.

Today though, Fightin' Spirit is the best of the Street Fighter clones. At least when played with a CD32 pad. Didn't like a lot of the characters though. Still, I voted Panza Kickboxing, 'cause it's the best game of it's type so far, and having a Panza Kickboxing remake with the Fight Night 3 engine would be like a dream come true. Why are there basically no realistic fighting sims these days? Where you can't break your opponents neck/back/arm and still have him fighting normally? I want another Panza.

Ok, seriously, who voted for any of the MK's? *Slap*

It is my favourite game, but its missing more than half of the controls! Its like making love with only your balls. :P

IK+ has probably the best balance, plus a couple of mini games and don't forget the falling trousers!

It is a PC self-contained MAME + Mortal Kombat 1 (T-Unit ver.5).

Moonstone isn't a beat'em up. It's a hacknslash multiplayer game with RPG elements.

I voted for SF 2 because I dont care if its horrible abortion because when I played it first on Amiga and had real fun. SF2 and Moonstone are beat em ups I waste a lot of time with. IK+ is great too.

It is beat em up, no doubt about it. Chaos Engine has some "RPG elements" too and its pure shoot em up game. Perfect shoot em up.

according to HOL moonstone is beat'em'up not slash'n'hash and if something does not exist in HOL it does not exist in the universe . not sure if rpg element changes anything...
assuming that beatemups have to be only about bare hands, bricks and gas pipes (served with oriental sauce if possible) then imho all beateumps suck

Yes, many racing games (and not only racing games) got some "RPGelements" too.

Then I simply don't agree with HOL. Hack'n'slash is a genre of its own. The similarities are too vague, imo. If that's the case, every game with a swordfight is a beat'em up. Elvira and Waxworks spring to mind.

EDIT: it's not the rpg elements that keeps it from being a beat'em up. It's the fact that the Hack'n'Slash genre exists, and it's a perfect fit for Moonstone, and you don't have to pry it into a genre it doesn't really belong to. Diablo isn't a beat'em up, is it?

Pirates is beat em up game? Warlords is beat em up game?
Hack n slash is subgenre.

Is Target: Renegade beat em up? You can use axe, stick, hammer, its hack n slash (with hammer and stick ). But when you dont use it, its beat em up.

Hack 'n slash is maybe a subgenre of beat 'em up, but that still makes it a beat 'em up
You don't wanna tell me that Golden Axe isn't an beat 'em up, right?
