Although the most important thing is to participate, Lemon has a little revenge on her hands , so we have an big mountain in front of us. They have more participants, thus we need to score higher with less people Quote:
The 50% reduction that is applied is made with "no interpolation". Thus size does not matter as it's always 1:1 pixel perfect. But I think of it, maybe you want to avoid zooming, so OK, I will do next time. |

Ah okay, then there's really no need to enlarge it.

There is at least one time Maletoth touches me (while I give him the 20 strokes). 4 is my best so far then.

I spent a few hours working on the fourth world but couldn't get past the last door. I looked up the solution and... wtf.
I even tried replicating it, knowing the solution, and it wasn't easy. I'll tap out there! |

Just for reference - this is the current "high score" by malko that one has to beat (or equal) to get maximum points:

I had another go and changed the way I attacked Maletoth and... succeeded in killing him without being touched . Unfortunately, in the moment of joy, I forgot to press the print-screen . I will try to do it again tomorrow as now it's time for a rest |

Yeah, will try
Yesterday I didn't play (got a terrible cold - so was happy with a quiet evening). Quote:
Instead of letting Maletoth Killing you (to train), press the "help" key. This tip can be used everywhere in the game if you get stuck |

Ah, that's very handy and changes everything. Should be easy to figure out his movement patterns now. Thank you.
Should have read the manual better that I posted myself on page 1. Get well soon! @all: Of course this inbuilt retry-function is only allowed for practicing. Last edited by john4p; 29 January 2020 at 13:03. |

Yes just to confirm that final scores made with 'retries', 'continues', or 'free help trainers' are not allowed, even if they are built into the game itself.
I didnt know about the in-game helps in SOTB, but as I had to follow longplays each single step of the way, with frustrating all-or-nothing puzzles, Im not sure it would have made the game any easier to get through. For Hybris, the player can press the space bar on the title screen to review the trainer options. All of these changes are banned as part of the compo, and they would be of little use to train, because 1) scores wouldnt count as a competition score, a 2) even if you trained for hard mode, you'd still have to loop the game 2 times and get back to the hard mode, to get the scores. |

Okay, you keep your current health and lives when retrying so it's not actually unlimited retries against Maletoth. But still very useful for practicing.
Managed to beat him without losing health now: |

^ Well done John : great !!!
Yes, this "HELP" tip is most that welcome to train to beat Maletoth. I think I am a bit faster than you in killing Maletoth. I will give a go and record my moves (I avoid his attacks with different placements than on your video) and we will compare. Now you have to play again to have three full lives at the end of the game to join me on the 1st place of the podium |

Well done, congratz!
Took almost 19 days to get a perfect play of this - Beast III proved to be a great fit for this competition. |

First try today:
Having beat this with full health felt very rewarding. The only Amiga gaming achievements that felt more rewarding to me were beating Beast II (without full health), Lotus hard mode and SuperCars I. |

Excellent John ! You made it !
For myself, this episode is really too easy. SotB II & especially SotB I are far more harder. Here, some puzzles excepted, only Maletoth may be an issue for some players. Anyway, I have to say that after playing it as many times as I did for this compo, I find the background gfx really beautiful (contrary to my first impression BitD). Regarding the hero, well... I still find that he's ridiculous without t-shirt, with his backpack and his hat... And if you look at my last screenshot, it looks like he is wearing a "moustache" . Anyway, I follow you. A perfect game for the compo ! |
