Libraries

A question I have is as follows: how should I handle libraries. For example mpega.library has different versions (68020/68030(+fpu),68040,68060, PPC. etc).

Which library should I select and store in LIBS:? If I store all libraries in LIBS: what will the software choose?

Thanks!

Which will it choose? The one with the proper name and path within Libs: will be attempted and if it doesn't work with your configuration it will fail without seeing the other versions.

You must store the libs according to your CPU... If you have a stock A1200 (68020) choose the 68020 version..
If you have a blizzard 68030 + 68882, choose the 68030+CPU version...
If you have 68060 Accel card.. choose 68060 version !
Quite simple

Sounds simple: OK, mpega.library comes in PPC, PPC+integer, PPC+FPU. So, I should simply rename it to mpega.library then?

A link would be a nicer solution. Eg makelink from mpegaPPC.library to mpega.library.

Nicer how? More work, eats up more HD space, contradicts every Amiga installer ever written, more confusing to have 6-8 versions of a library lying around...

Additionally, many tools (archivers, backup tools) might have problems with links.
