I went with CDTV simply because it was an abysmal marketing failure. Much too soon and much too underpowered for a useful "multimedia appliance". (CDXL video was much worse than VHS. MPEG1 VCD later reached a par.)
Refusing to call "Commodore CDTV" an Amiga didn't help much either. At least CD32 sold slightly better (if not much)! |

Looking at commodores business strategy in retrospect one has to wonder what the hell were they thinking with all these badly conceived half baked measures of upgrading and rebranding, don`t get me wrong I’m not bashing the wonderful machines we have grown to love but still one has to wonder what they were putting in their coffee at the time...

I could never understand the 1500, 2500 or 3500. Surely they should have all been '+' editions as they were upgrading what was already there... which the 500+ was in mucho respects (the 500+ is a cool machine).
Anyway, the 4000 we eventually got should have been called the 2999! |

Well the 3500 was only the prototype name of the 3000T and was never officially released.

"Worst" is not a word I'd feel comfortable using when describing any Amiga. Well. maybe that piece of crap that looked like a vacuum cleaner

CD32 looks like a tomb for a hamster family but I love it!
A600 is a bit like an old candy in new paper |

A500+ was bothersome with a few of the older games, but A600 sucked.

If THAT would happen to come out to the public, would get my vote in this poll.

Worse for Commodore or worst for a technical view or aesthetic view?
Anyway I'll vote for the A2000 this time, what a tank compared to the sleek A1000 I don't know why people voted for the 500, best Amiga ever (for the time and market) and kept the company in the black for years longer than it would have been otherwise. |

A500 plus is probably the worst machine, useless chipset upgrade with f'k all benefit to gamers. Close tie with the hideous A3000T. Looks like a cheap nasty 386/286 Viglen Tower PC yuck! At least the A4000T looked OK. |

Ive owned several of each Amiga model ever produced (except for the A3000T) and my vote whent for CD32.
I hard a hard time choosing that or the CDTV but then i remembered libraries in Norway used the CDTV so at least over here it had a tiny success factor and the CD32 didnt. Today they are both more or less pointless in my eyes and it really shows on the CD32 that they whent the cheap ass route when making it. |

It may be one of the groundbreakers but being used to my A500 the thought that always crossed my mind when I used my friends A1000 was "what a piece of crap".

can you substantiate that statement about A600? As I previously wrote, the Amiga press gave this model such a bad rep in the early 90s, which was kind of reasonable at the time because of A600's lack of expandability. Remember having seen it on a top of "the worst Miggy list". That argument is not valid anymore. Accelerators, ram expansions, ethernet PCMCIA cards, compact flash solid state drives, optical drives, USB...you name it. Try that on A500/CDTV/CD32.

On the topic of 500+/600/AGA compatibility with earlier games. The problems were mainly coding issues not hardware. The 1000 is a nice machine - very well built - add a Rejuvenator and pretty much up-to-date with a common 500 |

Worst model ever has got to be the A500+
I had 2 A500's (1.2 & 1.3) and when the A500+ came out I sold my old A500's and bought a new A500+. Big mistake! None of my cracked games worked with it. Even some original games wouldn't work on it. I couldn't really see how commodore could justify bringing out a new machine where the only difference was an increase of 512k in chip ram and a slightly better O.S. The A500+ was the biggest waste of desk space ever. Kev G [EDIT] Just looking at the pole I can see that some weirdo has voted for the A1200. He obviously hasn't taken his medication today. Think I've found the worst Amiga model ever.
Don't ask me where I got this from! |
