the cotton bud is not accurate unfortunately, as said above, the mould can be invisible to the naked eye.

that's why the cotton eye cleaner is the right thing is use.

I never used alcohol, it can mess stuff up and leave residue unless it's isopropylic, so I would just use water.
Personally I used my fingers, as long as you gently rub, there's no problem. I didn't break anything, i brought back to life many disks, I was really surprised!
I never tried with 3.5" disks because it's a pain to snap them open without breaking them.

* the big thing is to dry right away the alcohol once applied on the surface, it must not be stay like that. the cleaning operation must be done in less than 1mn.
* no fingers allowed, the grease on them, sebum whatever is doing traces on the magnetic surface, badddd

* on 3,5 disc, it's easy when you know how and which tool to use ! If the plastic break it means it's cooked, and it will break in pieces.

A flathead screwdriver and a little TLC is all that's needed.

As I said had no problems. Only when under the water, didn't touch the disc afterwards. No oil on disc. I guess it depends on your skin type (and I have very dry skin)

I can give it a try. I have a kryoflux to try the disk with. The hardest part is getting the wife to part with the eye cleaners.

loool you just need 3 or 4 (you'll mostly use 2 of them, one with the alcohol, the other to remove the alcohol and the mould. This must be done quite fast, from inner to outer, process to do on both disk sides).

Ok. If Arnie is happy and confident that he can clean and rescue it, that's fine by me.

Disk arrived today.
I'm waiting for a new PC drive as the old one wouldn't calibrate with Kryoflux.
Cleaning the disk while I'm waiting.

Before I clean the disk I thought I would insert it in my A1200.
The disk comes up as NDOS.

The disk boots O.K, with caches turned off but, after typing FACILITIES 3x the screen goes blank, no further disk activity, is this normal?
