WarpEngine cooler

Hi.
Does somebody knows if the warpengine 68k40 40mhz really need a cpu fan (cooler)? im watching for one that comes only with a heatsink but i see that
card on amigahardware and it comes with a cooler, so im afraid of buying it and... burn it

If it needs a cooler, is it a normal pc cooler?

Tks

A 40mhz '040 cerainly need a cooler....I would use a chipset cooler with thermo adhesive tape so it's easy to replace the cooler dies.

This is what I use on my hot Motorola CPU's

This one comes with thermo adhesive tape

heys cybernoid.

all 040@40mhz require passive cooling (a heatsink) but if you want you components last a little longer and perhaps perform a little better due to more effcient cooling you can easly modify an active cooling solution designed for a PC cpu

Heat is the primary killer of components... the cooler the component the longer it will last.

a note of caution however. old fans can output a lot of EMI wich can interfere with memory if it is in close proximity. a new one (bearing sleaveless) wuold be quite nice on an 040 sink block

you require a 60mm fan for such a purpose but realistically any cooling is good cooling

Many tks for the answers. I think im gonna buy that card then Ill put a little cooler on. I knew coolers are very important, at least for pentiums. I have a cooler on my pc thats really big. Its the size of an hand. I have the pc (northwood 2.4ghz) running smoothly at 30ÂșC for almost 7 years. But I have no idea about 68040 processors. Well, until your precious help. I'll look for those adhesive coolers to try not damage the boards.

Again, Many tks "Amigaz" and "ZetrO".

My Apollo 1240 @ 33mhz would overheat with only a heatsink and it would reset.

I would recommend a fan + heatsink
