Linksys EC2T freezes A1200

Hi there,
i am using an Amiga 1200 with board revision 1D4.

This machine works fine with a 3c589 PCMCIA Ethernet NIC under AmigaOS using the soft reset method. Now I wanted to install a LinkSys EC2T, to be NE2000 compatible for Linux.

Unfortunately, the system freezes in the same instance I plug the LinkSys card into the slot. The funny thing is, the system continues running normal (without reset or anything) when I unplug the card again. Having the card installed before powering on, the A1200 does not boot at all. I took this card because it was marked to be compatible with the A1200.

There is no difference between using a turbo card or just the plain A1200. I assume the PCMCIA port to be working because the 3COM card is running. Inside my PC, the LinkSys EC2T is detected by WindowsXP, so this card seems also to be working.

Has anyone any suggestions to that issue? Thanks a lot!

You should really have card reset and card patch to solve the A1200 pcmcia issue

In case of the 3c589 I use card reset. These tools are software tools. Unfortunately, the Amiga does not start at all, so it never executes the startup-sequence with card reset when the LinkSys card is plugged in.

But anyway thanks for the response. I will try to solder the hardware Gayle reset patch, perhaps this works. However no report regarding the PCMCIA reset contains the freezing effect so I give it only a slight chance.

Any further ideas ???

Not very helpful, but I'd say if your Amiga doesn't even boot with the card plugged in then you're probably out of luck

Smiley... read his post Works fine UNTIL he puts the LinkSys card in... works great with a 3c589 in there though (or nothing at all).

I was afraid to hear this. I will try the hardware reset with a 74HC04 this evening and report the result.

I forgot to mention, that my A600 does not freeze with the card plugged in, therefore I believe I have some chances in the reset upgrade. Perhaps the LinkSys is driving the bus lines to some meaningless levels until it receives an appropriate reset signal.

Happy

Unbelievable, the hardware reset fix did the job. It is not absolutely clear to me, why it is working, because during runtime there is no reset signal provided to the Gayle chip, but anyway.

I strongly recommend to do the PCMCIA hack in any A1200. I used an inverter IC called 74HCT04.

Thanks for your interest.
