Escom A4000 Tower - IDE boot problem

Hello,
I have read in an other website, about an hardware fix to solve the "Escom A4000 Tower IDE boot problem" (when connected an IDE HD as master before the boot there' s a guru meditation and if the IDE HD is in slave mode It's needed to do a soft-reset)

Just use our IDE boot kit (2 timer devices cabled on the main powersupply)

what are "2 timer devices cabled on the main powersupply" ?. Is there a way to buy it or build it ?.

here the link http://www.verycomputer.com/2_0cd16615886fe8f9_1.htm

I have and Escom A4000 Tower with IDE drives and have no issue booting from IDE drives. I boot from an IDE CF Card reader and have a SATA SSD drive (with IDE adapter) as slave. I added a 4-Way IDE to it and have a DVD-RW drive on the second channel and it still boots without a guru and/or without having to do a soft-reset.

interesting; Can you tell me the models about your "4-Way IDE" and the "IDE adapter" to CF+SATA you use ? and where I can find them ?.

Have you tried to use a simple PATA/ATA HD connected in master mode ?.
(if I connect a simple ZIP IDE not bootable there is not this problem, so your IDE adaptors could solve this A4000T Escom problem).

I'll have a look at the adapter....I'm no longer using it as I've moved one of my ide devices to the WarpEngine SCSI controller (using San ACard adapter). Still booting off the ide cf card as Master and the ide DVD-RW as slave.

On the A4000T motherboard IDE connection:
Ide cf card reader (Master) boot device.
Ide DVD-RW (Slave) device

Nothing on the A4000T SCSI controller

SSD drive (replaced SATA SSD with IDE SSD) on the WarpEngine SCSI (no boot partitions).

No model # I can see on it, it's from AmigaKit and says "for use in A4000 only. Not suitable for A1200".

Was used in my A4000D and then moved to the A4000T. Currently not being used.....for now anyway.

Why wouldn't it be suitable for the 1200?

Unbuffered. There is no reason why it wouldn't work, but it will put your Gayle at risk.

thanks, very interesting also your "San ACard adapter"; same as you I use the WarpEngine 040@40. Where Can I buy this "San ACard adapter" ? and Can use more then one if I want to connect more units to SCSI chain ?

Sorry it was using "an" Acard but was auto corrected. Yes, you can use one for each device you wanted to use but they aren't cheap. SATA to SCSI is about $249 each. IDE to SCSI list the same but you can find then cheaper on eBay, etc. They make less expensive ones specifically for optical drives.

ok thanks, Is not better to buy an "Elbox FastATA 4000 MK-VII CF/SATA/SSD Black Edition Zorro3" that has 16,6Mb/s for four units VS pay how much for a single adapter for the fast scsi II controller onboard WarpEngine that has only 10,0Mb/s ?.

Has "Elbox FastATA 4000 MK-VII CF/SATA/SSD Black Edition Zorro3" DMA ?.

I have no free slots so I make do with what's on the motherboard or on the accelerator and I'll take WarpEngine SCSI over A4000T SCSI or IDE every day.
